Job description

Life Sharing Host Family Opportunity – Montoursville, PAMake a Lasting Impact by Welcoming Someone Into Your Home and Daily Life

Location: Montoursville, PA (Lycoming County)
Position Type: Contract
Organization: Abound Health

Are you looking for a meaningful way to apply your compassion, patience, and creativity in everyday life? Abound Health is seeking a caring, stable, and dedicated individual or couple to join our Life Sharing Program as a Host Family for a young adult who is working toward greater independence and community involvement.

This unique opportunity allows you to open your home and heart to someone who is ready to continue building life skills, strengthen community connections, and enjoy the support of a welcoming family environment.

What Is Life Sharing?

Life Sharing is a person-centered residential model where an individual becomes a fully integrated member of a family home and community. Unlike traditional caregiving, Life Sharing focuses on long-term relationships, independence, and meaningful daily experiences within a natural family setting.

As a Host Family, you provide more than housing. You provide belonging, stability, mentorship, and support.

About the Individual

We are supporting a friendly, social young adult with intellectual and developmental disabilities who is preparing for greater independence in adulthood.

He works part-time in the community and enjoys:

  • Church activities
  • Bowling
  • Special Olympics
  • Dancing
  • Volunteering
  • Spending time with friends
  • Community activities and social events

He is independent with many daily living skills but benefits from guidance and encouragement with:

  • Money management
  • Decision-making
  • Community participation
  • Building skills for future independent living
  • Developing confidence and self-advocacy

He has several chronic medical conditions that are well-managed and is generally healthy. There are no significant behavioral concerns, and he enjoys being active, social, and engaged with others.

What We're Looking For

The ideal Host Family will:

  • Provide a safe, stable, and welcoming home environment
  • Value community involvement and social connections
  • Encourage independence while offering guidance when needed
  • Help develop daily living and decision-making skills
  • Be interested in building a meaningful, long-term relationship
  • Support participation in activities, hobbies, work, and community events
  • Promote dignity, choice, and personal growth

Individuals, couples, and families are encouraged to apply.

What You'll Do as a Life Sharing Host Family
  • Provide a safe, stable, and supportive home
  • Include the individual in family routines, meals, and activities
  • Offer mentorship, companionship, and emotional support
  • Encourage participation in community, church, volunteer, and recreational activities
  • Assist with budgeting and money-management skills
  • Help develop independence and self-confidence
  • Collaborate with Abound Health and the support team to follow person-centered plans
  • Promote personal growth and meaningful life experiences
