What We Are Looking For:Meets all qualifications to work as a Primary Care Paramedic in Ontario, as set out in the Ontario Ambulance Act and its Regulations, and as established by the County from time to time, including:
  • Graduate of an approved College Paramedic Program OR Paramedic Students expected to graduate in 2026.
  • Valid CPR certification - certified within the last 12 months.
  • A-EMCA certificate or pending (successful pending applicants are permitted to work for an ambulance service for up to 210 days without the AEMCA. Candidates who are pending must be able to demonstrate successful application for a future AEMCA date)
  • Valid Class F Driver’s Licence, compliant with the specified employment requirements related to driver's licence under the Ambulance Act; good driving record and good driving skills.
  • Able to identify patient treatment needs and provide appropriate care.
  • Physically capable of lifting and carrying heavy patients and equipment.
  • Valid documentation and suitability for allowable entry into the US for cross-border transfers.
  • Available to comply with availability requirements and work all shifts, all stations (including remote overnight assignments at Pelee Island), as scheduled or called in, in a 24-hour per day, seven-day per week operation (days, nights, weekends, and holidays).
  • Good interpersonal skills; able to communicate effectively; to work closely with the entire healthcare team.
  • Good teamwork skills, and ability to work closely with a partner for extended periods of time.
  • Able to work in stressful situations and exercise sound judgment in emergency situations; critical thinker.
  • Good data entry skills.
  • Candidates will be required to participate in a job-related physical fitness test.

2025 (October) Hourly Rate: $39.63 - $46.52 Prior Years of Paramedic Service Recognition:EWEMS wishes to recognize qualified and practicing paramedics from other regions, who are choosing to dedicate themselves in changing their primary work for Essex-Windsor EMS. New paramedics who can successfully verify previous active service will be recognized for both wage and vacation benefits upon successful completion of all conditions of employment (you do not have to wait for your probationary period to expire). *Subject to employment conditions and evaluation at the discretion of the Corporation.
