About this role:
The part-time Behavioral Health Counselor (Licensed Therapist) at The Potter's House Dallas Behavioral Health Counseling Center is responsible for developing and implementing individualized treatment plans for assigned clients within trauma-informed environment. This includes maintaining a full caseload, conducting individual, family, couples and group counseling sessions and teaching educational classes as needed. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Counselor provides education, counseling, and prevention services to children, youth, and families referred through internal or external agencies to support and improve their mental health and overall well-being. In alignment with The Potter's House's holistic approach to healing, the Counselor integrates evidence-based practices with compassion, cultural sensitivity, and, when appropriate, Christ centered spiritual support.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Caseload Management: Supervise and manage a full-time caseload: provide counseling, and group services to children, youth, couples and families.
  • Assessment & Treatment Planning: Conduct psychosocial assessments and develop individualized treatment plans; provide client advocacy and follow-up.
  • Counseling Services: Deliver individual, group, couples and family counseling sessions; teach educational classes as needed.
  • Recordkeeping & Compliance: Maintain accurate and updated case files; compile monthly statistical data and aggregate casework records; maintain active license and state laws and ethics
  • Administrative Support: Coordinate caseload distribution, client assignments, contract management, and accountability services as assigned.
  • Community Outreach: Engage in ongoing outreach and build linkages with community partners, schools, and the juvenile justice system; maintain positive relationships with funders, government bodies, and the general public.
  • Practicum & Volunteer Supervision: Supervise graduate-level as well as agency volunteers.
  • Agency Representation: Accurately represent the agency's mission and services; provide constructive feedback from the community to management; identify opportunities for positive public relations.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications:
Education & Licensure
  • Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related field (required).
  • Active licensure or license-eligible (e.g., LMFT, LCSW, LPC, LPCC) preferred.
  • Additional theological training or spiritual care experience is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Minimum of three years' experience providing counseling or managing a caseload with children, youth, and families.
  • Experience with family counseling, case management, and multi-agency collaboration strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in behavioral health or related settings, including telephonic consultation for mental health, substance abuse, or crisis-related issues.
  • Ability to integrate life coaching approaches, including goal-setting and action planning, to enhance client progress when appropriate; life coaching certification preferred but not required.
  • Ability to assess needs, determine appropriate services, and provide referrals to local providers.
  • Skilled in using counseling techniques during crisis calls when needed.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to make presentations.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters with professionalism and integrity.
  • Effective under pressure; self-starter with team-building skills, innovative thinking, and the ability to maintain high professional standards.
