The Team


E-Learning @ FAA within the College of Fine + Applied Arts at UIUC is focused on using design and technology to elevate education in the arts. We design online and blended courses, help faculty and students use e-learning tools, and take a strategic approach to improving the course-and the overall FAA-experience.


Job Description


We're looking for a creative, curious, and ambitious person to fill one graduate hourly position.  

As a member of E-Learning @ FAA team, the Education Support Assistant will assist in the support and maintenance of online instruction for the college's six academic units-Architecture, Art + Design, Dance, Landscape Architecture, Music, Theatre, and Urban + Regional Planning. The Education Support Assistant will assist with the technical development of team projects and instructional applications. 


At E-Learning @ FAA, we like to help our team members grow and develop professionally. To this end, the Education Support Assistant will work with the Senior Instructional Designer to develop and lead a project that aligns with their professional goals.


Working in conjunction with other E-Learning @ FAA team members, the Education Support Assistant will:  
 

  • Work with Instructional Designers to integrate courses with learning management systems (Illinois Compass 2g), online learning tools, and other technologies in support of course goals and objectives. 
  • Assist faculty with creating and updating online instructional materials with a focus on maintaining effective instruction through technology. 
  • Research and evaluate emerging instructional technologies and tools, and make recommendations for use. 
  • Develop instructional support documents and resources for students and instructors. 
  • Provide technical support to faculty and students for online teaching and learning tools via email and chat (we use Intercom). 
  • Small-scale media production, such as banner graphics for courses (we try to be as visual as possible in our courses!) and how-to videos. 
  • Support course evaluation and quality assurance based on identified quality standards. 
  • Participate in the creation and analysis of reports regarding enrollment trends, learner behaviors, student achievement, survey data, etc. 
  • Additional duties as needed.


QualificationsMinimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree with strong experience or interest in development/support of online instruction. 
  • Demonstrated high-level interpersonal skills and interaction with faculty of varying ranks from differing departments. 
  • Experience editing HTML. 
  • Experience using or building in learning management systems. 
  • Working knowledge of fair use and copyright in an education environment. 
  • Proficiency with media production software (e.g. IMAGES-Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator; VIDEO-iMovie, Adobe Premiere; AUDIO-Garage Band, Audacity). 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and proven customer service/problem-solving experience. 
  • Basic knowledge of Macintosh and Windows Platforms. 
  • Experience with conferencing and networking tools used in educational context (wikis, blogs, discussion forums, video conferencing tools, etc.). 
  • Proven ability to work with confidential and sensitive data in a Higher Education environment. 
Preferred Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree in Web Development, Education, or Instructional Technology. 
  • One year of experience supporting delivery of distance education at an institution of higher education. 
  • One year experience creating materials and facilitating training for faculty and staff in higher education. 
  • Experience creating, modifying, and managing courses in a learning management system (e.g. Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas). 
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and pedagogy. 
  • Expert knowledge of graphic design software and audio/video production software. 
  • Experience writing HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. 
  • Knowledge of UX design theory and research methods. 
  • Proven experience creating training materials and facilitating faculty and staff training. 
  • Experience applying learning and instructional design theories to with e-learning tools. 
  • Experience in technical support of varied desktop platforms and browsers. 
  • Experience training and supporting faculty in the use of learning management software for online course development and delivery of online learning.
