Job description

Salary Range
The expected base rate for this Glens Falls, New York, United States-based position is $19.25 to $30.93 per hour. (Exact rate is determined on a case-by-case basis commensurate with experience level, as well as education and certifications pertaining to each position which may be above the listed job requirements.)

The Impact You Can Make 

Groundskeepers are responsible for all exterior building and grounds maintenance and repair, minor repairs and preventative maintenance of assigned grounds equipment and other non-clinical equipment as assigned. They will also perform specific duties included in various contracts served by the Facility Services Department. Work will be performed within Glens Falls Hospital and at numerous satellite buildings serviced by the Department. This position is also responsible for minor equipment and building repairs and maintenance, the movement, relocation and disposal of various items as needed and as assigned by the Grounds Supervisor. The groundskeeper will perform all duties in a manner that will meet or exceed customer expectations.

How You Will Fulfill Your Potential (Responsibilities)

  • Mow, trims, waters and performs other duties necessary to maintain the lawns, landscape, shrubs & trees.
  • Performs all snow removal activities.
  • Uses all equipment and vehicles associated with exterior maintenance activities. 
  • Performs painting activities on exterior of building. 
  • Operates vehicles and equipment such as loader, sweeper, skid steer, plow trucks, etc.
  • Provides maintenance support and relocation needs for dental van. 
  • Follows routine-operating procedures, uses hand tools, power tools, hoists, and measuring and minor testing instrumentation to carry out assigned work.
  • Dismantles machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts, following specific directions under the supervision of Mechanics, Electricians, Plumbers, Senior Mechanics and/or Supervisor. 
  • Inspects and tests machinery and equipment, using electrical and electronic test equipment. Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction. Brings any unusual problems to supervisors. Makes repairs as needed. Coordinates vendor provided service.
  • Performs PM tasks as directed by manufacturers and experience. 
  • Hangs items as directed.
  • Repairs and replaces building hardware. Provides other minor repairs as directed.
  • Patches and paints plaster and sheetrock walls and other building components.
  • Uses computer to access the departments Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Works with various manuals to research parts and information regarding equipment or building systems.
  • Provides input to supervisors and managers of ways to improve service, function, efficiency or performance.
  • Communicates to coworkers and customers of work status, completion time frames, parts needs, shut downs, etc.
  • Provides proper and timely documentation of activities.

What You Bring (Qualifications)

  • Education/Accredited Programs

    • High School Graduate or G.E.D

    • One to 4 years of experience performing similar work (required). Vocational school specific to job description preferred

    • Experience in heavy equipment operation. (loader, backhoe, skidsteer, etc.)

  • Licenses/Certifications/Registrations: New York State Driver's License required

  • Skills/Abilities:

    • Basic mechanical skills.

    • Use of hand and power tools, as well as minor testing equipment.

    • Ability to work in a team environment.

    • Ability to communicate with customers and coworkers.

    • Above average customer service skills.

    • Experience using grounds equipment and tools, snow removal equipment and vehicles.

    • Experience painting, including necessary surface preparatory work.

    • Minor building maintenance skills.

    • Proven mechanical skills
