Their work typically includes gathering data, preparing reports, monitoring portfolio performance, and supporting the investment decision process. Part-time analysts may focus on specific sectors or asset classes and often help senior analysts or portfolio managers with research tasks. To thrive as a Part Time Hedge Fund Research Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, financial modeling expertise, and a solid understanding of investment principles, often supported by a degree in finance, economics, or a related field. Proficiency with tools such as Excel, Bloomberg Terminal, and financial databases, along with progress toward certifications like CFA, is highly valued. Exceptional attention to detail, communication abilities, and time management skills distinguish top performers in this role. Job description

About the job

You'd advise the CEO directly: a monthly call where your job is to tell him where he's wrong, plus make warm introductions to people at funds you think we should be talking to. Expect to make about five introductions a month, more in the first month as we get going. We care far more about talking to the right five than a bigger number of intros. A few hours a month. NOTE: this is a contract consulting role, not a part time employment role.

We believe the fundamental investing firms of the future will run on data infrastructure and workflow tools built for how they actually work. The payoff is sharper thinking, more coverage per analyst, and ultimately more alpha. We built Mercata inside a $600M long/short that has paid for it in production since April, and that fund's COO and CIO also invested in the company directly. We're looking for advisors who hold the same level of conviction about the future.

About Mercata

Mercata is a hedge fund's brain. Fundamental investing hedge funds are full of brilliant people who can't remember what they know when it counts, so we built the firm's memory: not just the records like an RMS, but the reasoning that produced them - the debates, the objections, the names the team passed on - all of it linked to the filings, news, and market data moving every day. The memo keeps the decision; Mercata keeps what produced it. Because it sits in the research flow, every question the team asks becomes part of the firm's memory, and the longer it runs, the smarter the firm becomes. Everything it says is citable back to a source. Think of it as the tireless associate who has been in every meeting, hears everything, and forgets nothing.

Requirements

  • 10 years of experience as a COO, CIO, or PM inside a $500M+ fundamental investing hedge fund
  • A network of COOs and CIOs at established $50M-$2B funds who are likely to take your calls
  • Unrestricted from working with Mercata. Independent, retired, or running your own shop.
  • Genuine conviction that the fundamental investing firms of the future will run on infrastructure like this

Benefits

Equity: a meaningful advisor grant vesting monthly over two years. Exact numbers on the first call.

This is not an employment role and as such, there are no employee benefits offered.
