The Newport News Sheriff's Office has an immediate opening for a part-time Licensed Mental Health Professional. The Sheriff's office operates two facilities housing over 500 inmates.
JOB DESCRIPTION
  • In this role, you will care for an underserved population in a correctional medical environment while working alongside law enforcement to solve problems for our patients and clients. The Mental Health Professional, operating under the guidance of the Mental Health Director, delivers essential clinical services to individuals in need. This role encompasses providing mental health consultation and training to facility staff, contributing to the overall well-being and support of the persons served. Through their clinical expertise and collaborative efforts, the Mental Health Professional plays a crucial role in enhancing mental health services within the facility. Deliver direct clinical and consultation services adhering to policies, professional ethics, and standards of relevant organizations, including conducting mental health screenings and assessments. Develop and complete treatment plans, respond to sick call requests and referrals, and offer individual and/or group counseling, along with crisis intervention services. Ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation, provide training and consultation to staff, and actively participate in quality assurance activities. Fulfill assigned duties with a commitment to professional standards and organizational objectives as a Mental Health Professional.

Education
Master's degree in psychology, social work or behavioral science field
Experience
  • Experience in the coordination and administration of mental health service delivery systems preferred.
  • Correctional healthcare experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with substance use disorders and Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Licenses/Certifications
  • Licensed or license-eligible in the State of practice - e.g. LCSW, LMFT, LPC, LMHC, Psychologist - Must maintain all licensures, certifications, continuing educational requirements, etc.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Requires an acceptable background check and acceptable credit check.
  • Requires a valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Employees in this job are required to refrain from all use of controlled substances and are subject to random controlled substances testing.
  • Current CPR certification
