Job Description
The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual with experience in human anatomy and medical education to serve as a part-time anatomy instructor. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the education of future physicians while working alongside anatomy faculty to deliver the medical school anatomy curriculum. A part-time anatomy instructor helps support the delivery of the cadaveric anatomy curriculum housed in the Virginia Intercollegiate Anatomy Laboratory at Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital. Working closely with the Director of Anatomy and anatomy faculty, the position will assist medical students during laboratory sessions, help prepare the laboratory for instruction, and contribute to a collaborative, respectful, and professional learning environment. Depending on the candidate's experience and current status, a primary, co-appointment, or affiliated faculty appointment in the Department of Basic Science Education at VTCSOM could be supported.
The ideal candidate will be able to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students. This individual shall also possess strong interpersonal and communication skills while having a demonstrated interest in human anatomy and medical education.
Required Qualifications
Completion of coursework, training, or education in anatomy, biology, kinesiology, nursing, pre-medicine, physician assistant studies, physical therapy, occupational therapy, medicine, or a closely related field.
Documented training, prior teaching experience, professional practice, or other relevant experience in medicine, gross human anatomy, or a related healthcare or life sciences discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in a human anatomy laboratory or cadaveric dissection.
Prior teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or medical demonstration experience.
Experience effectively supporting teaching and learning activities, including preparing instructional materials and assisting with laboratory or classroom setup.
