Working Hours: VARIES all three shifts - Scheduling of PRN employees hours is solely determined at management discretion and is subject to change at any time.

Position Reports to: Environmental Services Manager
PRN employees provide supplemental staffing to meet patient care demands and departmental workloads. PRN employees are not guaranteed a minimum or maximum number of hours in any pay period, nor are they assigned a regular schedule. Patient care needs and departmental workload determine the number of available PRN hours. PRN employees may work in scheduled positions on a temporary basis for coverage due to vacancies, vacations, or leaves of absence until the positions are filled by full-time or part-time staff.
PRN employees are not eligible for employee benefits such as health insurance, paid time off (PTO), sick time, jury duty pay, or bereavement pay.
To maintain PRN status, each employee must:
a. Meet all minimum qualifications for the position held.
b. Maintain competency within their scope of practice.
c. Maintain current licensure, registration, and certifications (e.g., BLS, ACLS, PALS, as applicable).
d. Participate in required clinical and skills checklist updates.
e. Complete all mandatory orientation, annual education, and department in-services.
f. Attend or review and sign monthly staff meeting minutes.
g. Complete a 90-day orientation evaluation and an annual performance evaluation thereafter.
h. Notify the Department Manager promptly of any changes in availability, licensure, or certification status.
Department Description: Wilson Health's Environmental Services Department is staffed with highly trained support service staff responsible for managing the cleaning and disinfecting of medical equipment, patient rooms and other common areas throughout the hospital. This department is the main defense against serious infections that may linger on surfaces throughout the facility.
Job Summary: The Environmental Services Specialist follows established procedures to clean, service building areas and performs a variety of environmental services duties to maintain the hospital in a neat, orderly and sanitized condition.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Obtains and retains knowledge of specifications to clean patient rooms, surgery, OB, floor care, outside windows, and attainment of patient goals.
  • Thoroughly cleans areas using proper cleaning materials, supplies and solutions.
  • Always observes established isolation and aseptic techniques in accordance with departmental policy and procedure.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of infection control and strictly obeys the hospital policies for infection control procedures by washing hands regularly.
  • Seeks out work that needs to be done, demonstrates alertness to areas needing attention.
  • Consistently demonstrates an awareness and concern for patient safety, always uses caution signs as appropriate.
  • Displays courtesy at all times with patients, visitors and co- workers.
  • PRN employees are required to adhere to all hospital policies and procedures.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor scrubbers, and buffers.
  • Ability to work around cleaning chemicals while following safety procedures

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Previous housekeeping, janitorial, environmental services, or healthcare cleaning experience preferred.
  • Willingness to learn healthcare cleaning standards and infection prevention practices.
