Job description

The Office of Student Services is committed to fostering student learning, belonging, and wellbeing. The Area Coordinator for Residence Life & Housing is a part-time, graduate-funded professional staff member who supports the development and oversight of residential communities. This position is designed to provide hands-on professional experience in housing operations, student support, and staff supervision, while also supporting the employee's graduate education through a tuition benefit model.
The Area Coordinator receives day-to-day direction, guidance, and project oversight from the Senior Director of Residential Life and Conduct, supporting residential communities, supervising student staff, and contributing to key operational and educational initiatives. This position is live-on required and focuses on day-to-day residential support, community development, and housing operations with no participation in the professional on-call rotation. Only one Area Coordinator will be employed in this role.

Requirements
Essential Functions:

SUPERVISION & LEADERSHIP
  • Supervise and mentor Head Resident Advisors (Head RAs) within assigned residential areas
  • Provide indirect oversight and support to Resident Advisors (RAs) through the Head RA structure
  • Hold regular one-on-one meetings with Head RAs and facilitate area leadership meetings
  • Support Head RAs in supervising, developing, and evaluating their RA staff
  • Assist with RA and Head RA recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation processes
  • Support the implementation of staff training and ongoing professional development initiatives
  • Attend Residence Life staff meetings and contribute to departmental planning

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT & STUDENT SUPPORT
  • Foster inclusive, engaging residential communities that promote student success and belonging
  • Serve as an accessible and supportive resource for residential students
  • Provide guidance and referrals for students experiencing academic, social, or personal concerns
  • Promote accountability, respect, and community standards within residential environments

PROGRAMMING & EDUCATION
  • Support RAs in planning and implementing educational and social programming
  • Ensure programming aligns with departmental learning outcomes and community needs
  • Assist with campus-wide initiatives coordinated through Student Services

STUDENT CONDUCT & ACCOUNTABILITY
  • Assist in the administration of the student conduct process within residential communities
  • Adjudicate low-level conduct cases as assigned
  • Utilize a developmental and educational approach to student accountability
  • Maintain accurate documentation and follow-up

FACILITIES & HOUSING OPERATIONS
  • Conduct routine walkthroughs of residential communities to assess facility needs
  • Report and follow up on maintenance concerns with Plant Operations
  • Assist with housing processes including occupancy management, transitions, and assignments
  • Support administrative functions related to housing operations

CRISIS RESPONSE
  • This position does not participate in the professional on-call rotation
  • Provide support during business hours for student concerns and follow-up as needed
  • Refer after-hours emergencies to professional on-call staff

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
  • Receive ongoing mentorship from the Senior Director of Residential Life and Conduct
  • Gain experience in housing operations, student conduct, and staff supervision
  • Participate in training and leadership development opportunities
  • Build competencies aligned with careers in Student Affairs, Housing, or Higher Education

Eligibility:
Students are eligible for a Graduate Assistantship at Westminster College if they have been admitted to a graduate degree program at William Woods University and enrolled in a minimum of 6 graduate level credit hours per semester in the fall and spring. Students must have achieved a 3.0 grade point average or higher as an undergrad, and must maintain a cumulative 3.0 grade point while serving as a graduate assistant. An official offer cannot be extended to an applicant until the student is accepted into the graduate degree program. Housing and meal plan are provided.
Job Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's degree required.
Experience: Experience in Residence Life, Student Affairs, or related leadership roles preferred. Demonstrated commitment to inclusion, student development, and collaboration
