Description The essential function of the position within the organization is to provide approved golf instruction and player development programming as part of The Sevierville Golf Club Golf Instruction Program. The position reports to the Head Golf Professional / Assistant Director of Golf and is responsible for delivering professional, safe, and effective golf instruction while following approved lesson rates, booking procedures, payment procedures, and facility policies. Summary of Duties Provides approved golf instruction through The Sevierville Golf Club Golf Instruction Program, including private lessons, junior lessons, on-course lessons, lesson packages, group clinics, and other approved player development programs.
Conducts lessons only as scheduled and approved by management through the facility's approved lesson booking system. Ensures all lesson revenue is collected through the Golf Shop point-of-sale system before the lesson or at check-in according to facility policy. Follows approved refund, cancellation, scheduling, and no-show policies as established by the facility.
Does not accept private lesson payment outside the approved City payment process and does not use tee times, range bays, practice areas, staff resources, or City-owned assets for private benefit. Tips from students are permissible in accordance with facility policy and applicable City directives. Primarily uses assigned 'teaching' teeing area.
Putting green & short-game areas scheduled to avoid conflicts with Guests and other instructional programs. Eagle's Nest covered facility use must be requested and scheduled in advance. Does not independently reserve, block, or hold tee times, Eagle's Nest facility, practice areas, or any other City-owned assets for private use or personal benefit.
Provides instruction in golf fundamentals, short game, putting, course management, rules, etiquette, pace of play, practice habits, and general golf knowledge. Assists with junior golf programs, beginner programs, adult clinics, family programs, group instruction, and other player development activities. Lessons should attempt to be inclusive and attract students from all categories and backgrounds.
Coordinates lesson activity with Golf Operations, Eagle's Nest staff, Outside Services, and Management to ensure instruction does not interfere with daily operations, peak periods, tee sheet activity, range bay usage, or guest service needs. Maintains accurate lesson records, including lesson type, lesson time, student name, participation counts, program notes, and other information required by management. Submits required lesson reports by the last Friday of each pay period for management review and payroll processing.
Promotes golf instruction, range use, junior programs, clinics, and other approved player development services offered by The Sevierville Golf Club. Maintains a professional appearance and creates a welcoming learning environment for juniors, beginners, families, tourists, members, local guests, and other students. Keeps instructional areas, lesson stations, practice areas, teaching aids, and related equipment organized, clean, and safe.
Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Education requirements refers to job specific training and education required for entry into the position. Requires an education, experience, or training equivalent to graduation from high school. Additional education, training, or certification in golf instruction, recreation, sports management, physical education, hospitality, or a related field is preferred.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: Licenses, certifications, and registrations refers to professional, state, or federal licenses, certifications, or registrations required to enter the position. Requires a valid Tennessee driver's license or the ability to obtain one. PGA Membership, PGA Associate status, LPGA certification, USGTF certification, ADM training, SafeSport training, or other golf instruction-related credentials are preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Experience refers to the amount of work experience that is required for entry into the position that would result in reasonable expectation that the person can perform the tasks required by the position. Requires experience playing golf, teaching golf, assisting with golf instruction, working in golf operations, or participating in organized golf programs. Must have a working knowledge of golf fundamentals, rules, etiquette, pace of play, practice habits, customer service, safe use of golf facilities, and basic lesson administration.
Experience working with junior golfers, beginner golfers, group clinics, or player development programs is preferred.
