Advocate Health is seeking a Surgical Informatics Officer - Associate Vice President to provide clinical informatics leadership across perioperative and procedural services. This physician leader will partner with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nursing, operations, and IT to optimize Epicenabled surgical workflows, enhance quality and safety, and drive enterprisewide standardization across the surgical continuum.

This role is designed as a 0.6 FTE physician leadership position, enabling continued clinical practice while providing meaningful informatics leadership impact across the enterprise.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates,analyzesand ensures documentation of assigned function workflows across various specialties.Identifiesopportunities for reengineering to support aims andensurethat optimized, reengineered workflows are technologically enabled. Leads efficient design, builds andoptimizesdocumentation,orderingand decision support tools within the electronic medical record system.
  • Ensures physician training and supportisaligned to promote the goal of efficient use of technology in the delivery ofhigh qualitypatient care.Dedicates time to each facility to learn complexities as well as develop collaborative relationships with all physicians throughout the Advocate Aurora Health system.
  • Leads assigned function Electronic Medical Record (EMR) governance across Advocate Aurora Health. Serves as the medical informatics leader for the assigned function group.
  • Provides clinical and IT leadership in the areas of planning, development, preparation and implementation of strategic and tactical clinical information systems.Develops empathy and understanding of physician needs and builds relationships with physicians to gain supportofIT initiatives. Collaborates closely with other clinicians.
  • Leadsdesign ofclinical pathway models with clinicalleadership, andassistsin modification of these models to gainmaximumefficacy and support for patient care and research protocols. Works in collaboration with various stakeholders.
  • Reviews medical informatics trends, experiences and approaches, develops technical and application implementation strategies andassistsin the development of strategic plans for clinical information systems.Usesdata to proactivelymonitor,reviseand automate best practices to improve quality and patient safety.
  • Evaluates the impact of information technology on clinical processes andidentifiesareas to promote use of technology in creating efficiencies for clinicians and improving quality of care. Leads andfacilitatesclinician advisory groups in the design of clinical systems to support excellence in patient care and research.
  • Highly responsive to user needs, including training, toassurewide spreadacceptance and provider use ofthe clinicalsystems. Collaborates with physician champions across Advocate Aurora Health to synthesize feedback from frontline physicians and providers and translate them into actionable initiatives.
  • Serves as a key conduit of communication with physicians relating to informatics and information systems. Serves as an advisor to other project managers with non-clinical experience

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • MD or DO degree with board certification in an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) relevant clinical specialty
  • ACLS/BLS certified; trauma response training preferred.

Education Required:

  • Doctorate Degree in Medicine.

Experience Required:

  • Typically requires 10 years of experience in directhealthIT deployment and optimization.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • High levelof clinical knowledge, analytical ability, criticaldecision makingskillsand an extensive knowledge of healthcare issues, with a focus on the science of integrating healthcare, technology, and clinical data.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of clinicalwork flowin both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Ability to develop flexible, transferable models for pathways of care.
  • Strong leadership, organization, and collaborative management skills.
  • Knowledge of major trends in healthcare and managedcare.,Familiar with point of care products and medical informatics trends and tools.
  • Knowledgeable in the areas of management and systems improvement concepts.
  • Skilledin implementing organizational strategies to improve healthcare delivery.

  • Generally exposed to a normal office environment.
  • Position requires travel,thereforemay be exposed to weather and road conditions.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
