Job description

Atlanta Technical College (ATC) is seeking highly qualified applicants for its Adjunct Barber Instructor (Part- Time) position in the Business and Public Service Technologies (BPST) Division. This position is part-time and located on Atlanta Tech's Main Campus, just South of Downtown Atlanta.
Under general supervision, the Adjunct Barber Instructor (Part - Time) will demonstrate a passion for teaching and commitment to helping students develop essential barbering skills. This is a part-time position, working up to twenty-nine (29) hours per week.
Dusties and responsibilities include, but may not be limited to the following:
  • Develop and implement detailed lesson plans and curricula for barbering courses
  • Instruct students on various barbering techniques, including haircutting, styling, and shaving
  • Demonstrate proper use and maintenance of barbering tools and equipment
  • Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback
  • Prepare students for state licensure exams and ensure compliance with state requirements
  • Maintain an organized and safe classroom environment
  • Coordinate and supervise hands-on training sessions and practical exams
  • Stay updated with the latest trends and techniques in the barbering industry
  • Evaluate and grade students' performance and practical skills
  • Assist in the development and revision of training materials
  • Foster a positive and engaging learning atmosphere
  • Provide mentorship and career guidance to students; and
  • Other duties as assigned

COMPETENCIES:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Proficiency in the use of barbering tools and equipment
  • Basic computer skills for administrative tasks and record-keeping
  • Advanced knowledge of current barbering techniques and trends

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess or demonstrate the following:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have a valid Georgia Cosmetology Instructor License
  • Minimum of three (3) - five (5) years of professional barbering experience
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Experience with curriculum development and lesson planning
  • Previous experience as a barbering instructor or in a similar teaching role
  • Experience with digital learning tools and online education platforms
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students
  • Passion for education and student success
  • Advanced knowledge of current barbering techniques and trends
  • Patience and the ability to adapt teaching methods to different learning styles
  • Commitment to continuing education and professional development

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
In addition to Minimum Qualifications, a Barber Instructor License with experience is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Teaching responsibilities are typically performed in a classroom/lab environment with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling for three (3) - four (4) continuous hours at a time; and may occasionally lift up to 25lbs. Exposure to chemicals and fumes is possible in the laboratory setting. A full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes.
