Part Time Full Stack Software Engineer information

What is a part time full stack software engineer?

A Part Time Full Stack Software Engineer is a professional who works fewer hours than a standard full-time schedule, typically 20-30 hours per week, and is skilled in both front-end and back-end web development. This role involves building and maintaining both the client-side (what users see) and server-side (the logic and database) of web applications. Part time positions offer flexibility, making them ideal for students, parents, or those seeking work-life balance, while still contributing to the full software development lifecycle.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time full stack software engineer?

A Part Time Full Stack Software Engineer needs strong proficiency in both front-end and back-end programming languages, such as JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and a server-side language, along with a solid grasp of software development principles. Familiarity with frameworks like React or Angular, backend systems like Node.js or Django, and version control tools like Git is typically required. Excellent time management, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are vital soft skills for balancing part-time responsibilities and collaborating with team members. These skills ensure efficient delivery of robust, scalable solutions while maintaining productivity and integration within a development team.

How does a part time full stack software engineer typically integrate with full time team members and ongoing projects?

Part-time Full Stack Software Engineers often work closely with full-time colleagues through regular stand-ups, code reviews, and collaborative tools like Slack or Jira. Clear communication and well-defined tasks are essential to ensure project continuity, especially when schedules don't fully overlap. You may be assigned specific features or bug fixes that fit your availability, and documentation becomes crucial for seamless handoffs. This structure allows you to contribute meaningfully while balancing other commitments, though proactive communication is key to staying aligned with project goals.

Can I learn full-time part-time full stack software engineer in 3 months?

Becoming a full stack software engineer typically requires several months to years of dedicated learning, depending on prior experience and the complexity of skills such as programming languages, frameworks, and tools. While intensive bootcamps or self-study programs can help acquire foundational skills in about 3 months, gaining proficiency for a full-time role usually takes longer and involves practical experience and continuous learning.

Job description

French Teacher/Tutor Wanted

Eager to help students turn "Je ne sais pas" into "Oh la la"? Motivated to help support children's French education outside of the classroom?ย

Gain valuable teaching experience!

Are you a friendly, reliable, and enthusiastic French speaker? Join the team at Oxford Learning St. Thomasย as a part-time French teacher/tutor/coach. Ignite your passion for helping students succeed - en francais!ย

The Role:ย

At Oxford Learning St. Thomas, we help students improve their academic and study skills in a small group setting. Our class sizes are small with a maximum of three students per teacher.ย Our teachers explain and guide students through the provided material while teaching crucial learning skills and having fun. You will have flexibility in how you deliver the material to each student (in fact, we encourage that!), but you must follow all Oxford Learning philosophies and methodologies (training will be provided).ย

You will not be required to lesson plan or create learning materials for studentsย - we do that for you! Your role includes reporting on concepts covered and cognitive skills discussed, monitoring and reporting on student progress, and ensuring student programming moves at an appropriate pace. You must be comfortable teaching students in both French and English.

All classes at Oxford Learning St. Thomas take place during after-school hours, from 4pm - 8pm, as well as Saturdays from 9am - 12pm.ย

Our Teachers are:

  • Reliable

The Successful Applicant is:ย

  • Available a minimum of two evenings per week beginning at 5pm (4pm preferred), and the occasional Saturdayย
  • Fluent in French
  • Comfortable working with students who work and learn "outside of the box" - this includes students who have ADHD, Autism, MID, Dyslexia, and a variety of LDs.ย
  • Willing to commit to the end of June 2027 (summer hours also available)ย
  • Not afraid to take risks and ask questionsย
  • Able to commute to St. Thomas reliably to work in-person (this is NOT an online position - relocation packages are not available)
  • Able to provide a clear vulnerable sector check prior to working with students

Must Haves:

  • Bachelor's degree or similar certification in a relevant field (university students with tutoring experience will be considered)
  • Experience teaching or tutoring elementary students
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English and French
  • Ability to multitask and balance working with up to three students at a time
  • Ability to guide students' understanding of a variety of concepts
  • Ability to stay calm and professional at all times

Nice to Haves:

  • Teaching certification in Ontario

What We Offer:

  • Paid training
  • Ongoing professional development and training opportunitiesย
  • Frequent check-ins and feedback / coachingย
  • Hands-on development of teaching skillsย
  • Snacks in the kitchen and fun treats throughout the year
  • Flexibility and accommodation for scheduling needs and requestsย
  • A safe, understanding, and accepting atmosphere

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: $19 - $20 / hour

Schedule:
