PURPOSE
Thepart-time Creative Copywriting Assistant plays a key role in SAMU's Marketing Services team byworking with the Marketing Specialistto developcompelling and engagingpromotionalcopy formarketingcampaigns. Copywritingensures thetone, style, and voice of all marketing and communicationsalignswith SAMU's brandidentity. This position supportskey messaging developmentand content adaptation for both traditional and digital platformswhileensuringclear and accurate marketingcommunications. This role is an excellent opportunity for a creative and detail-oriented writer who is passionate about engaging student audiences and ensuring high-quality marketing content for SAMU.


SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Copywriting & Content Development - 50%

  • Develop creative headlines, body copy, and key messaging for a variety of marketing materials.
  • Write blogs, articles, and detailed content tailored to student engagement.
  • Ensure copy aligns with SAMU's brand guidelines, tone, and style.
  • Collaborate with Creative Services to create creative concepts and ensure consistency between copy messaging and visual direction for all promotional assets

Content Adaptation for Various Communication Channels- 30%

  • Modify and tailor content for traditional and digital marketing materials, including:
    • Posters, handbills, banners
    • Website content and digital signage
    • Email newsletters
    • Social media posts
  • Ensure consistency in messaging across all platforms.
  • Maintain a high standard of accuracy and formatting to minimize errors.

Other - 20%

  • Work closely with the Marketing Services team to ensure timely completion and approval of all copy before design and production phases.
  • Collaborate with the Creative Services team to ensure all messaging aligns with visual strategy
  • Provide input on marketing initiatives and messaging strategies as requested.
  • Work with SAMU's project management software, Basecamp, to complete tasks and communicate with other staff related to projects.
  • Assist with other Marketing projects and tasks as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Preference will be given to current MacEwan Students registered in a minimum of one class during either Fall or Winter term.
  • Enrolled in Marketing, Communications or other related Certification/Degree program.
  • Experience incopywriting, editing and proofreading

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong understanding of brand voice, messaging, and tone, and the roles they play in developing marketing and communications materials.
  • Proficiency in writing for long and short formats, including digital and print.
  • Ability to adjust messaging for different audience demographics.
  • Knowledge of current marketing and communication trends, particularly in student engagement and experience.

WORKING CONSIDERATIONS

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Up to 25 hours/week, with office hours between 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. Will work around the student's schedule. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
