Job Purpose
Progress Rail is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Control System Engineering Intern to join our team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the development and validation of control systems. You will work alongside experienced engineers, contributing to real-world projects and gaining valuable insights into the full control system development lifecycle.

Education / Training
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Understanding of fundamental electrical engineering and programming concepts.
Key Job Elements
• Assist in the analysis and documentation of control system requirements ensuring clarity and traceability.
• Contribute to analysis of structured and unstructured field performance and failure data using Python or other analytic tools.
• Support the development of validation plans and test procedures.
• Participate in execution of design validation plans and associated engineering reports.
Qualifications and Experience
Basic Qualifications
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Interest in embedded systems and real-time software is desirable.
• Interest in engine/locomotive development.
Top Candidates Will Also Have
• Experience/ familiarity with embedded software development.
• Experience/ familiarity with engine and emissions control strategies.
• Experience/ familiarity with exhaust aftertreatment technologies.
• Experience utilizing development and data analysis tools (e.g. CANape, Python, MATLAB, Simulink).
• Experience with model-based software development.
• Desire to work in a fast paced, team environment.
Essential and Physical Activities Functions:
• Strength - This is a traditional office setting and requires the occasional lifting of weight of 50lbs. Lifting boxes of paper.
• Motion - This is a traditional office setting and requires the use of a computer, keyboard and other equipment. Employee will be sitting the majority of the day with occasional walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling and driving.
• Vision/Hearing Requirements - Must be able to communicate with customers and coworkers and utilize all office equipment.
• Work Environment - Work is in office sitting and not exposed to extremes of heat and cold. The position may require some work on the manufacturing floor that could expose candidate to all environmental aspects.
• Emotional Demands - Employee is expected to quickly pick up tasks in a fast-paced office environment and maybe required to give presentation, speak in public and work in teams.
• Safety - This is not a safety sensitive position. The position will require the use of all site-specific PPE.
Hourly rate will be determined based on major and credit hours completed at start of internships. Transcripts will be requested.
