Job description

Responsibilities

Supervision of all staff members providing direct patient care (includes RNs, LPNs and Behavioral Instructors)

Maintaining staff compliance with unit schedule of activities.

Insures maintenance of the therapeutic environment by staff through proper use of the Teaching-Family model of care and implementation of the treatment plan.

Auditing medication administration records for all nursing units and making appropriate decisions to rectify any discrepancies.

Working with the Director of Medical Records to ensure completion of all pt charts by nursing staff within timeframe allowed.

Completing the census sheets for each unit for the day shift and reporting this information at change of shift to the evening supervisor.

Monitoring inventory of unit supplies, and maintenance of forms stocked in unit file drawers.

Attending weekly supervisor/consultant meetings, Tuesday staff meetings, census meetings, and treatment team meetings as scheduled.

Assisting in unit nursing coverage for day shift as needed.

Communicating unit activities/needs with Director of Nursing and other Nursing Supervisors.

Assisting in staff education and competency in all hospital policies and procedures.

Assisting in conduction of nursing in-services.

Participating in Quality Improvement studies and processes to include data collection, implementation, reporting, and problem resolution.

Maintaining a positive attitude and work environment in all areas.

Assisting in the new patient admission process as needed.

Utilizing nursing assessment skills to make appropriate staffing assignments to all patient care areas.

Monitoring staff compliance with hospital policies and ensuring patient safety relating to all instances of use of seclusion or restraint.

Monitoring appropriate use of CPI techniques by all staff.

Finding replacements for Behavioral Instructors that call in on applicable shifts.

Must comply with the department’s in-service policy.

Must be able to obtain CPI certification and keep it current. This is a yearly certification.

Can demonstrate, supervise, and assess competency for waived testing or for phlebotomy.

Qualifications

Must be currently licensed by the State of Arkansas to practice as a Registered Nurse.

Must be qualified by education or experience in healthcare management and at least two years nursing experience as a Registered Nurse.

Must be physically able to lift 50 pounds and hold for one minute.

Must be physically capable to receive verbal and written directions. Must be physically capable of sitting and standing for several hours at a time.

Must have good auditory, visual and olfactory ability. Ability to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls.

Must be able to maintain effective audio, visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading and writing, and operating office equipment and other treatment equipment.

Must be able to use a telephone to communicate verbally and a computer to communicate through written means, to review information and enter/retrieve data, to see and read characters on a computer screen, chart or other treatment items.

Must be willing and able to work with all patients of Methodist Family Health.
