University of Maryland Capital Region Health is seeking an experienced Part Time Day Shift Registered Nurse to join the Operating Room team at our Laurel Medical Center on Contee Road in Laurel, Maryland.

This role offers a stable day shift schedule in a busy outpatient surgical environment, supporting a variety of same-day procedures. The selected candidate will be responsible for both scrub and circulate duties while delivering safe, efficient, patient-centered care throughout the perioperative experience.

We are seeking a confident, team-focused OR nurse who excels in a fast-paced setting and works effectively alongside surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and nursing colleagues. The ideal candidate is adaptable, clinically strong, and committed to maintaining patient safety, operational efficiency, and exceptional surgical outcomes.

PART TIME Schedule Details: 2 Shifts Per Week | 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently deliver high-quality perioperative nursing care across a diverse same-day and outpatient surgical case mix; anticipate needs, prioritize effectively, and maintain safe, efficient case flow.
  • Function as the primary circulating RN throughout the surgical experience; maintain accountability for patient safety, clinical outcomes, sterile technique, and continuity of care.
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and interdisciplinary staff to support seamless surgical operations and exceptional patient outcomes.
  • Execute evidence-based perioperative practice in a fast-paced surgical environment; respond confidently to changing patient conditions and procedural needs in real time.
  • Support patient and family centered care initiatives while maintaining the highest standards of quality, professionalism, and service excellence.
  • Contribute to quality and patient safety outcomes through effective handoff communication, medication safety practices, regulatory compliance, and participation in NSQI initiatives.
  • Support performance improvement, workflow optimization, and unit-based initiatives designed to enhance operational efficiency and the overall surgical experience.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and collaborative team member; support onboarding, mentoring, and development of new staff as needed.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and uphold all organizational, regulatory, and perioperative safety standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PART TIME Schedule Details: 2 Shifts Per Week | 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.



Location: University of Maryland Laurel Medical Center | 7150 Contee Road, Laurel, MD 20707

Licensure & Experience:
  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Maryland or Compact eligibility in accordance with MBON required.
  • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of Operating Room RN experience required.
  • Proven ability to independently circulate surgical cases in a fast-paced OR environment.
  • Experience supporting a range of procedures including general, orthopedic, and specialty cases strongly preferred.
  • Trauma experience preferred.
  • High-acuity experience and strong clinical judgment in complex surgical settings strongly preferred.
