Job description

CONTINUING EDUCATION- CPR LECTURER- PART TIME

MALCOLM X COLLEGE

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

Malcolm X College's Community and Continuing Education Department is seeking part-time Continuing Education Lecturers to teach CPR, Basic Life Support, First Aid, AED, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and related American Heart Association courses. Malcolm X College offers CPR and basic life support training, CPR Instructor courses, and instructor recertification courses using American Heart Association guidelines and curriculum. The instructor will provide high-quality, hands-on instruction for adult learners, healthcare providers, workforce training participants, and community members. The instructor will teach assigned courses in accordance with approved course outlines, learning outcomes, American Heart Association curriculum standards, and City Colleges of Chicago policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Teach CPR, BLS, First Aid, AED, and related emergency response courses in accordance with approved

course outlines, student learning outcomes, and applicable American Heart Association requirements.

Demonstrate and supervise hands-on CPR, AED use, relief of foreign body airway obstruction, and related emergency response skills for adults, children, and infants, as appropriate to the assigned course.

Deliver clear, engaging, skills-based instruction that supports adult learners with varied levels of

experience.

Assess student performance through required skills checks, practical demonstrations, written assessments, and/or other approved evaluation methods.

Maintain a safe, respectful, inclusive, and well-organized learning environment.

Follow American Heart Association curriculum, guidelines, course documentation expectations, and Training Center procedures.

Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, roster, certification, and course completion records as required.

Communicate with Malcolm X College Community and Continuing Education staff regarding course needs, student concerns, supplies, equipment, schedules, and completion requirements.

Adhere to City Colleges of Chicago code of ethics, Board rules, policies, and procedures.

COURSES MAY INCLUDE

American Heart Association BLS Provider

CPR for Healthcare Providers

Heartsaver CPR/AED

First Aid/CPR/AED

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

CPR Instructor or Instructor Recertification courses, if the instructor holds the required instructor-level credentials

CPR/BLS skills monitoring or related certification support activities, if authorized by the appropriate AHA Training Center

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Current instructor-level credential appropriate to the course assignment, such as American Heart

Association BLS Instructor, CPR Instructor, Heartsaver Instructor, or equivalent credential required for the assigned course.

Current provider-level CPR/BLS certification, as applicable.

Demonstrated knowledge of CPR, AED use, basic life support, first aid, and relief of foreign body airway obstruction for adults, children, and infants.

Experience teaching, training, coaching, or assessing hands-on skills.

Strong verbal communication and presentation skills.

Ability to work effectively with diverse adult learners.

Ability to follow certification, documentation, safety, and compliance requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience teaching CPR, BLS, First Aid, AED, or healthcare provider certification courses.

Experience with American Heart Association course administration, rosters, eCards, skills checkoffs, instructor monitoring, or Training Center processes.

Associate degree or higher in a healthcare field.

Current or prior RN, Paramedic, EMT, firefighter, public safety, healthcare, or simulation education experience.

Experience teaching in a continuing education, community education, healthcare, EMS, public safety, or workforce training environment.

Experience developing or updating lesson plans, course materials, or practical skills assessments.

WORK LOCATION AND SCHEDULE

This position is based at Malcolm X College. Courses may be offered on campus and may include daytime, evening, or weekend assignments depending on program needs. Some CPR-related offerings may be structured as short-format, one-day, or Saturday courses depending on college and program needs.

COMPENSATION

$25/hour - Assistant Instructor

$29/hour Lead Instructor

Compensation is determined by the approved instructional rate for each course section assigned.
