Job description

Position Summary / General Scope:

The BLS Lead Instructor is a certified EMT who instructs, evaluates and mentors students in Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and specialized training, ensuring adherence to OEMS standards and statewide treatment protocols. Providing instruction for initial certification classes, creation, review and periodically updating BLS level training content. Responsibilities also include providing instruction to healthcare professionals in resuscitation techniques (CPR/ACLS/PALS), high-fidelity simulations, and emergency care protocols, ensuring compliance with AHA or equivalent standards, ensuring the provision of excellent educational experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and leads CEC Orientation Programs for new employees
  • Assist in the creation and development of classes and criteria associated.
  • Deliver lesson plans for EMS programs, including Basic Life Support (BLS) skills, and BCLS
  • Provide hands-on training in skills labs, overseeing scenarios to ensure competence in basic airway management, cardiac arrest management, BLS pharmacology, splinting, etc.
  • Initiates and completes remediation as prescribed by Medical Direction and/or Clinical Oversight.
  • Administer practical and written examinations, provide feedback to students, maintain student records.
  • Conduct monthly training for certified EMTs (CME).
  • Mentor students in the classroom and clinical settings
  • Monitors employee progress towards required BLS recertification.
  • Assist in coordinating and providing orientation instruction.
  • Reports on student progress to CEC leadership.
  • Attend faculty meetings, training and planning sessions as required
  • Maintains knowledge of and complies with all company policies, procedures, and guidelines at all times.
  • Must maintain a reliable attendance and reports as scheduled and required
  • Completes other duties as requested and assigned

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Associate Degree or higher preferred

Licensure, Certification, Registration:

  • Current valid driver’s license
  • Current Massachusetts EMT Certification
  • Current Instructor Coordinator (IC) Certification
  • National Registry EMT Certification
  • Current CPR Certification
  • CPR Instructor Certification preferred*

*May be obtained internally, must be maintained

Experience:

  • 3 years of experience in providing BLS Level care within the last 10 years.
  • Experience with monitoring student progress, tracking and follow up
  • Experience with education standards
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong Organizational Skills
  • Ability to solve problems and conflicts
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion at all times

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must display professionalism in attire, demeanor and attitude to present a positive learning environment for students, associate faculty and training center.
  • Ability to meet the essential duties and physical, mental and sensory requirements of the position at all times.
  • Satisfactory background check and MA CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information), verification required annually.
  • Verification of an acceptable motor vehicle driving record, verification required annually.

This job requires:

  • Ability to stand, walk and sit for extended periods of time, and lift/transfer equipment or patients during training scenarios
  • Ability to independently lift and maneuver 25 pounds without difficulty.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move 30 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to frequently walk, talk and hear, ascend/descend stairs
  • Ability to frequently use fingers, hands and arms to reach, handle and/or operate equipment, objects, tools or controls
  • Ability to occasionally climb, ascend/descend stairs balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste or smell.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
