Reports to : Director of Transportation

Employment Status: Part-Time

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

POSITION DESCRIPTION

At The Walker School, our bus drivers are an integral part of the communities they serve. They are committed to safety, customer service and have genuine, caring attitudes for children. We are looking for drivers to safely operate school/mini coach buses on scheduled routes and/or on all types of trips in support of school approved activities, both within and outside the school boundaries in accordance with Federal, State and Local laws as well as The Walker School and Student Transport policies.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Services, inspects, and cleans school buses and related equipment as required by Federal, State, Local, The Walker School, and Student Transport policies.
  • Maintains control of student passengers to ensure safety and report unsafe acts or conditions which require the attention of any person other than the driver.
  • Operates and services all school bus equipment and accessories including but not limited to fire extinguishers, highway warning kits, first aid kits, etc.
  • Performs required operational safety inspection of the school/mini coach bus and all related equipment.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly school/mini coach buses. Performs a daily pre-trip and post-trip inspection to include fuel, oil, and coolant and tire inflation.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum age 25
  • CDL required to apply for position. Valid Class A, B or C Driverโ€™s License needed in order to apply for position; required to have held a valid driverโ€™s license for a minimum of three years prior to application date
  • Meet the physical and mental standards necessary to perform the duties, tasks and responsibilities of a school bus driver as described in this job description (Verification by a physiciansโ€™ examination is required, per DOT guidelines)
  • Ability to sit, walk, or stand for prolonged periods of time.
