Description
This position will assist the Head Coach and Assistant Coach with any tasks or duties as assigned. This position may be split up to include stipend only or stipend plus Room & Board. Camps and Club opportunities available.
Job Duties
  • Recruitment

  • Identify prospective student athletes and establish and maintain appropriate communication.

  • Conduct effective on-campus visits.

  • Demonstrate success with respect to qualified prospective student athletes.

  • Organization

  • Provide effective organization of program and management of time.

  • Perform a variety of coaching functions at all practices.

  • Organization and supervision for team travel.

  • Scouting of all future opponents and providing scouting reports to the team

  • Understand and conference, regional and NJCAA requirements in regard to meetings, statistics, rosters, schedules and awards.

  • Fundraising

  • Participates in departmental and individual sport fundraising activities/events for producing scholarship and/or team funding.

  • Advising

  • Academic Management of Student-Athletes (Class Scheduling and Grade Checks)

  • Assist with the admissions and financial aid advising process of team members.

  • Monitor academic progress and eligibility of all team members, providing intervention strategies and resources when necessary.

  • Assist with the orientation of student-athletes regarding expectations, college polices, code of ethics, sportsmanship code and local resources.

  • Public Relations

  • Establishes appropriate rapport with media including reporting scores and team statistics in a timely manner

  • Management of Program Social Media Accounts

  • Represents the department and Iowa Western to service clubs, media and alumni groups.

  • Works with entire athletic department on departmental projects and fundraising.

  • Assist with providing information needed to produce respective sports guide.

  • Works collaboratively with the college's radio and TV broadcasting programs.

  • Works collaboratively with the Reiver's Sports Media Coordinator in regards to sports promotions, events and social media.

  • Works collaboratively with the SID to update and maintain their respective sports webpage.

  • Administrative Responsibilities

  • Complies with the colleges, ICCAC's and NJCAA's rules and regulations.

  • Management of All Travel Functions in relation to the Men's Soccer Program

  • Coordinates team travel, accommodations, and meals.

  • Attends scheduled departmental meetings.

  • Attends coaches' meetings and ICCAC meetings as required.

  • Participates in clinics for professional improvement.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, plus 2+ years of experience in an applicable role; or equivalent combination of education and soccer coaching experience

  • Strong research and project management skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to articulate in both small and large group settings and with diverse groups of people including co-workers, students, business contacts and at various levels from front-line to administration

  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to multi-task, to meet deadlines, to maintain and access paper and electronic files, to produce error-free final products, and to manage time and output

  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently
  • Ability to speak Spanish, preferred

  • Ability to function collaboratively as part of a fast-paced, customer oriented team

  • Professional in communications, appearance, relationships, and responsiveness

  • Positive attitude

  • Self-starter with the ability to perform with little or no direct supervision
  • Ability to pass a background check, have a valid U.S. driver's license and good driving record

Physical Demands
  • The employee frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, telephone and basic office equipment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear

  • Ability to drive company owned or personal vehicle.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
