Gear Up Iowa Coach:
Position Title: Gear Up Iowa (GUI) Coach                                         FLSA Status:  Exempt
Reports to: Supervisor of Grants and Community Outreach              Days: 197 (.75 FTE), 30 hours/week
Starting Salary: $29,550.00

QUALIFICATIONS

 
Required:

• Bachelor's Degree required
• Minimum of two years of experience working with youth
• Proven experience with detail oriented tasks
• Valid Driver's License
• Pass a background check, which includes a Federal Background Check, state child abuse and sex offender registry check, and motor vehicle check.
• Able to work nights, weekends, and travel overnight.
• Able to submit paperwork and updates in a timely manner.

 
Desired:

• Experience with college planning and access, including financial aid and/or admissions
• Experience with grant implementation
• Experience with accounting documentation
• Experience with teaching or group facilitation

 
POSITION PURPOSE
 

                    This position is grant-funded and will end at the completion of the cohort, June 2029.

GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a United States Department of Education discretionary grant program designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.
The GUI Coach will provide GEAR UP cohort students and school personnel with support services that encourage students to pursue post-secondary education. These services will include, but are not limited to: educating instructors and students on college and career readiness topics, coordinating experiential learning opportunities for students, facilitating family engagement, and all other grant related activities. This person will also be responsible for GUI documentation, monitoring the budget, submitting claims and match, and other grant compliance tasks.
 

PERFORMANCE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Coordinate site-based college and career exploration and plan events for GUI cohort in collaboration with school counselors
• Provide GEAR UP students with assistance in the areas of academic achievement, school success (attendance and behavior) and life skills (e.g. organization skills, time management, individual and social responsibility, and work ethic) that impact school performance, college readiness, and success.
• Work collaboratively with site-based school counseling and administrative team to implement GUI objectives
• Collaborate with building staff to plan and implement activities and strategies for promoting a college-going mindset
• Assist district staff in the process of gathering and submitting financial documentation
• Prepare, monitor, complete, and submit documentation related to plan implementation, including but not limited to sign in sheets, calendars, etc.
• Promote GUI opportunities and resources to all cohort students and families
• Assist in organizing and participate in School Planning Team Meetings
• Lead building staff with events focused on college preparedness (e.g. College Application Week)
• Complete monthly documentation
• Attend required meetings
• Other duties as assigned
