Job description

Description Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) is Wisconsin's largest and most diverse technical college, offering 170+ high-quality programs that connect students to a career in as little as one to two years. Develops and teaches concepts and strategies for a variety of courses. May require teaching courses at MATC campuses, business, community, other sites, evening, and/or weekends. Under the supervision of the Dean, MCT Pathway, to plan and teach related and shop activities in the welding curriculum to include the areas of layout, blueprint reading, fabrication, oxy-fuel welding and cutting, shielded metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, gas metal arc welding, flux-core arc welding with self and gas shielded wires, inspection and testing, and welding math.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities. Manage the classroom/laboratory. Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.

Manage equipment, supplies and materials. Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues. Collaborate with the advisory committee in the program area.

Attend departmental and institutional meetings. Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC. Support student organizations and activities.

Develop relationships with business and industry. Complete program evaluation and follow-up. Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in the field.

Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Only those who meet all of the base minimum requirements listed below will be considered. Language Requirements: This position requires applicants to be bilingual in English and Spanish (fluently be able to speak, read, and write in both languages).

Minimum Educational Requirements: MUST have at least one of the following to be considered: Associate's degree or higher in a related field OR; 10 years (20,000 hours) of Welding experience OR; Have a state approved registered apprenticeship in one of the following areas: steamfitter, boilermaker, sheet metal, millwright, machine repair or ironworker. Minimum Occupational Experience Requirement: Must have 4 years (8,000 hours) of total work experience in Welding: Oxy-fuel welding and cutting Shielded metal arc welding, all positions Gun, tungsten arc welding of aluminum, steel, and stainless-steel material; plasma cutting Flux-core arc welding with self-shielded and gas shielded wires in any diameters Gas metal arc welding with any diameter solid wire, including pulsed arc transfer Read blue-prints and set up parts Interpret welding requirement from symbols on blueprints Quality control experience Inspection and testing Use welding codes and procedures In addition to the above minimum requirements, at least one of the following must be met: At least one (1) total year of work experience must have occurred within the last five years, OR; At least two (2) total years of teaching Welding (see above) course work at the post-secondary level within the last five years. (One (1) year of teaching experience equivalent to two (2) semesters full-time of four (4) semesters part-time Industry or Vendor Certification: One of the following will be required within two (2) years of employment start date: American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Educator (CWE) Certified Welding Inspector (CW Preferred but not required to have the following: State of WI weld certifications, and/or Journey level status in an occupational area that is part of the welding trades; steamfitter, boilermaker, sheet metal, or ironworker.

Must embrace and demonstrate Standards of Teaching Excellence and the MATC Career Essentials in development and delivery of instruction. Standards of Teaching Excellence: Understanding Students and Fostering Student Success Classroom Management Planning/Organization Content Mastery and Currency Teaching Methodology Assessment of Student Learning Professional Contributions Essential Technology: Email - Experience with an Email system (Gmail, Outlook) Telephone - Experience with a voice mail system Computer - Experience with Microsoft Office Suite/Google Essential Supportive Technology: Experience with or willingness to learn the following supportive technologies: Online Information Management Systems - Experience with Self-Service or other online information management systems used for student advising, student programs, grading, class schedules and rosters Blackboard Ultra - Experience with Blackboard or other web-based course - management systems Technology-based Instruction - Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology Emerging Technologies - Experience with emerging technologies (eg. social networking applications) Supplemental Information Start Date: This position supports the Manufacturing, Construction, and Transportation Pathway.

Hours: This position is up to a .5 FTE. Hours, location, and modality are based on enrollment and departmental need. Modality: 100% IN-PERSON Salary: Beginning in the fall of 2024 the starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching

Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour. This starting hourly wage of $40 an hour is non-negotiable unless market conditions dictate otherwise. Interviews: Selected qualified candidates will be invited to the first round of interviews for this position.
