About Us
Middle Georgia State University (MGA), a multi-campus, baccalaureate and graduate degree-granting public institution, is the most affordable public state university in Georgia. Job Summary
Middle Georgia State University is seeking candidates for a part-time Federal Work Study Student to be a Supplemental Instructor (SI) Leader or an Embedded Tutor (ET) in the Student Success Center.
Responsibilities
As an Supplemental Instructor (SI) Leader
  • Attend class lectures of historically difficult courses as a model student, build rapport with students, and plan SI weekly collaborative review sessions.
  • Help students reinforce knowledge from class lectures and assignments and offer strategies to integrate ยฟhow to learnยฟ with ยฟwhat to learn.ยฟ
  • Meet with the faculty member on a regular basis and attend SSC training.
  • Maintain accurate records and maintain FERPA compliance.

As an Embedded Tutor (ET)
  • Assist faculty with in-class support, primarily for Corequisite Math and English courses
  • Some attendance at Corequisite lectures may be required
  • Meet with the faculty member on a regular basis and attend SSC training.
  • Maintain accurate records and maintain FERPA compliance.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be a currently enrolled Middle Georgia State University student.
  • Must be enrolled in 6 or more semester hours per semester.
  • Must have a GPA of 3.00 or greater.
  • Grade of A or B in the SI course, taken either at MGA or transfer institution.
  • Recommendation from faculty on campus.
  • Exhibited course content-competency (to be determined by academic transcript and the faculty submitting the recommendation form).
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills (to be determined by the SI Staff throughout the application/interview processes).
  • Strong commitment to public service.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant experience to position responsibilities (prior experience in academic support, tutoring, mentoring, etc. is preferred)
