Description

Job Overview:
The Carpenter/Maintenance Technician is independently responsible for the completion of work approaching the journey level in a variety of trades, and will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of facilities, equipment, and building assignments throughout the community.
Compensation: $23-25/hr
FirstService Residential will compensate the successful candidate in accordance with the posted range. The salary or wage paid to the successful candidate will be commensurate with experience, education, and specific job responsibilities. For positions designated at a client's property, the salary or wage will also be premised upon the client's directive. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. 
 
Your Responsibilities: 
  • Maintain and repair facilities, equipment, and buildings by performing carpentry, painting, plumbing, and welding duties approaching the journey level.
  • Install, maintain, and repair decks, siding-trim, and trim.
  • Operate mechanical saws, buffers, lathes, drills, paint sprayers, drill presses, arc and acetylene welding units, and other shop machinery and tools.
  • Fabricate, using metal and wood materials, in order to build and repair brackets, braces, and fasteners.
  • Keep records on inventory and service, and maintenance work performed.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Assist other staff assigned to the Crosswoods HOA in performing other maintenance, landscape, and irrigation system duties as required
Skills & Qualifications:
Knowledge of: 
  • Standard methods, equipment, and practices used in commercial carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing, mechanical, and related trades. 
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions of those trades. 
  • Carpentry: Grades and types of lumber, screws, nails, glues, and other fasteners. 
  • Electrical: Basic test equipment; sizes, types, and capacities of hardware, wires, and fuses. Painting: Types and uses of paints, stains, lacquers, varnishes, and other coatings; methods of preparing surfaces. Plumbing: Sizes, types, composition, and uses of pipes and fittings used in water and sewer plumbing. Mechanical: Ducting, registers, fasteners, and filters. 
Ability to: 
  • Speak, read, and write English proficiently for effective job performance. 
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions. 
  • Carry out work assignments under minimal supervision. 
  • Perform a variety of skilled trade-related work in building maintenance and repair. 
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools competently and safely. 
Education & Experience:  
  • Must have framing/decking experience.
  • Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. 
  • Three years of experience performing a variety of maintenance and/or construction work, including work in one or more of the following trades: carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing, mechanical, and welding areas. 
 
Physical Requirements and Working Environment:

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. 
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time. 
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors, vendors, and our clients 
  • Valid California Driver’s License and State-mandated vehicle insurance, and registration. 
  • Ability to walk extensive slopes and/or flat association areas and visually review landscape, building areas, recreation facilities, parks, etc., to ensure proper maintenance. 
This is a full-time position with typical scheduled hours, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. May be required to work overtime as needed and approved by supervisor, including occasional evening meetings. Consistent and regular attendance required. 
 
Tools & Equipment Used:  
  • Valid California Driver’s License and State-mandated vehicle insurance, and registration.
