Part time farm jobs are agricultural positions that require employees to work fewer hours than full-time roles, often on a flexible or seasonal basis. These jobs can include tasks such as planting, harvesting, animal care, equipment maintenance, and general farm labor. Part time farm jobs are ideal for students, retirees, or anyone seeking supplemental income while gaining hands-on experience in farming. The hours and responsibilities can vary depending on the farm's needs and the time of year.

Job description

Dairy Farm Crew Member – Milking Operations
Employment Type: Part-time, fewer than 24 hours per week
Typical Schedule: 2:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m.; days vary
Weekend and holiday availability required

Wright’s Dairy Farm amp; Bakery is seeking a dependable and hardworking Farm Crew Member to join our farm team.

This hands-on position is responsible for safely, consistently, and efficiently milking our dairy herd while maintaining high standards for animal care, milk quality, sanitation, and food safety. The ideal candidate is comfortable working around large animals, follows procedures carefully, and can be relied upon to report to work as scheduled.

What You’ll Do
Milking Operations
  • Perform routine milking according to established schedules and procedures.
  • Prepare cows for milking by properly cleaning and sanitizing udders.
  • Attach and monitor milking equipment to support proper function and milk flow.
  • Watch for and report signs of mastitis, injury, abnormal milk, or other concerns.
  • Complete required post-milking sanitation and cow-care procedures.
  • Follow milk-quality, hygiene, food-safety, and animal-welfare standards.
  • Clean and sanitize milking equipment, tools, and parlor areas after each use.
Growth Potential
This role is focused on milking operations. Additional responsibilities may be introduced over time based on performance, demonstrated ability, and business needs, including herd care, feeding, and equipment operation.
What We’re Looking For
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Prior dairy-farming, livestock, or milking experience is highly preferred.
  • Farm-equipment or skid-steer experience is helpful but not required.
  • Comfortable working safely in close proximity to large livestock.
  • Able to follow detailed milking, sanitation, safety, and biosecurity procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and consistency with routine tasks.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain a reliable attendance record.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willing to communicate concerns promptly to supervisors and coworkers.
Schedule Requirements
  • This is a part-time position scheduled for fewer than 24 hours per week.
  • Typical shifts are approximately 2:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m.
  • Scheduled days will vary based on farm needs and business needs.
  • Weekend and holiday availability is required.
  • Occasional schedule adjustments or additional hours may be necessary based on herd care, seasonal demands, or farm operations.

Because dairy farming is a 365-day operation, applicants must be comfortable working a schedule that may include weekends and holidays.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements
Employees in this position must be able to:
  • Stand and walk for most or all of the shift.
  • Bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, and climb.
  • Perform repetitive milking and sanitation tasks.
  • Regularly lift and carry between 10 and 50 pounds, with assistance for heavier items.
  • Work safely on wet, muddy, slippery, and uneven surfaces.
  • Work around large animals, agricultural dust, animal waste, strong odors, and noise.
  • Work in indoor milking parlors, open-air barns, and changing weather conditions.
  • Safely use cleaning chemicals and sanitizers.
Required personal protective equipment must be worn. Employees must have durable, closed-toe, slip-resistant footwear suitable for wet and uneven farm conditions. Reasonable accommodations may be provided to qualified individuals with disabilities.
Compensation
$17.00 - $19.00 per hour based on relevant dairy, livestock, farm, sanitation, and milking experience.
