Burcham Hills is an upscale senior living retirement community located in the backyard of Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI. We currently have a vacancy for a Fitness Specialist to work a Part Time schedule.

In our community, our Fitness Specialists get to:

· Work 1 on 1 to help residents meet individual fitness goals

· Impact the physical, emotional and social well-being of residents

· Have flexibility of managing their own schedules

· Develop new program ideas to raise engagement of staying active

This position has been designed to have a lot of flexibility. It has the opportunity for you to reach out to residents, sign them up to the fit program and schedule them into your own caseload.

Some Job Responsibilities as a Fitness Specialist include but not limited to the following:

  • Design and implement individualized exercise programs based on the individual’s goals, medical history and overall wellbeing.
  • Assess goals and review exercise programs, as necessary.
  • Schedule and manage your own caseload of residents to achieve maximum efficiency during assigned shift.
  • Complete and update paperwork as clients onboard
  • Design and implement group exercise classes based on the groups’ ability levels.
  • Present and evaluate new fitness/wellness programs to maximize wellness throughout Burcham Hills.
  • Communicate with care staff, managers, therapists, physicians / physician assistants and family members to ensure quality of care.
  • Maintain proper documentation of sessions for billing purposes.

Qualifications: Hold a bachelor’s or higher in an Exercise related field, preferred. Personal Training Certification from an accredited program is required if Fitness Specialist does not have the above credentials. At least two years’ experience in fitness programs as a trainer, instructor or equivalent educational/training experience preferred. At least two-years’ experience instructing the elderly population in fitness programs, preferred. Demonstrate understanding, patience, tact, respect and courtesy in dealing with resident/client’s, family and visitors. Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend written and oral instructions in English.
