Job Description
The High Performance Coach will support both The St. James Academy and Performance Training programs by delivering high-quality training experiences to youth, student-athletes, and adult clients.
This role is open to multiple experience levels, including internship, part-time, and seasonal opportunities, with a clear pathway for growth within the organization.
This position reports to the Director of High Performance and may work up to 30 hours per week based on program needs and seasonality. Compensation is commensurate with experience, education, certifications, and role level.
Responsibilities
  • Design and implement age-appropriate strength and conditioning programs aligned with long-term athlete development models, including Academy student-athletes.
  • Lead and/or assist with individual, semi-private, team, and group training sessions across a variety of sports and ability levels.
  • Conduct warm-ups, movement skill development, strength and power sessions, recovery protocols, and performance testing.
  • Support the physical development of Academy athletes through collaboration with coaches and staff to align training with sport-specific needs.
  • Track and evaluate athlete progress using performance metrics and provide feedback to athletes, parents, and coaches as appropriate.
  • Assist in integrating performance training within Academy programming, including in-season and off-season development.
  • Maintain consistent communication with sport directors, Academy leadership, coaches, athletes, and families.
  • Support scheduling, session logistics, and attendance tracking as needed.
  • Contribute to program growth through community engagement, member experience, and retention efforts.
  • Assist with events, camps, combines, and Academy-related programming.
  • Ensure training spaces are clean, organized, and operating safely at all times.
  • Uphold all safety standards and proactively address risks or concerns.
  • Provide a positive, professional, and energetic training environment that reflects The St. James culture.
Qualifications
Internship Level
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field.
Part-Time / Seasonal Level
  • Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science or related field preferred (or in progress with relevant experience).
All Levels
  • Strength & Conditioning certification (NSCA CSCS or equivalent) preferred; required for higher-level coaching responsibilities.
  • Current CPR/AED certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Experience working with youth, high school, collegiate, or adult athletes preferred.
  • Strong understanding of strength training fundamentals, movement mechanics, and injury prevention.
  • Ability to coach and engage athletes across a wide range of ages and skill levels.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Positive attitude with a team-first mindset and willingness to learn and grow.
