Cardiology

Shift: Part Time - 24 Hours - Day Shift - 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM No Weekends or Holidays. Opportunity for more hours.

General Summary:

Under the direction of department leadership, the Exercise Physiologist implements, monitors, and supervises individualized exercise and cardiac rehabilitation programs for patients. This role is responsible for conducting cardiovascular testing and assessments, monitoring patient safety during procedures and exercise sessions, assisting with clinical triage functions, and providing patient education regarding exercise and cardiovascular wellness. The Exercise Physiologist collaborates closely with physicians and interdisciplinary care teams to support high-quality patient care and positive clinical outcomes.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Performs patient testing, evaluations, and assessments before and after rehabilitation and exercise programs.
  • Conducts and assists with cardiovascular stress testing procedures including Stress Echo, Exercise Treadmill Testing (ETT), and Nuclear Stress Testing.
  • Develops, implements, and instructs individualized exercise therapy programs based on physician orders, patient status, test results, and medication regimen.
  • Monitors patient responses during exercise and diagnostic testing, recognizing contraindications and abnormal responses and responding appropriately to ensure patient safety.
  • Assists with clinical triage duties and patient flow coordination as needed within the department.
  • Applies and educates patients on the use of cardiac/event monitors and related monitoring equipment.
  • Educates patients, families, staff, and community members regarding exercise, cardiac wellness, rehabilitation, and healthy lifestyle practices.
  • Ensures department equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and functioning safely and efficiently.
  • Maintains accurate patient records, schedules, reports, and department documentation in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Provides operational support and oversight in the absence of department leadership.
  • Maintains compliance with all Henry Ford Health policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
 
Education / Experience Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Previous experience with cardiac rehabilitation and cardiovascular stress testing strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Stress Echo, ETT, and Nuclear Stress Testing required.
  • Experience assisting with triage responsibilities and cardiac/event monitor placement preferred.
Licensure / Certification Requirements:
  • BLS Provider certification required within one (1) month of hire or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Exercise Physiologist certification through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) preferred.
  • Athletic Trainer credential through the Michigan Board of Athletic Trainers preferred.
  • Personal Training certification preferred.
  • Sports Medicine certification preferred.
  • Strength & Conditioning certification preferred.
Additional Information:
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and patient education skills required.
  • Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations and manage patient safety during exercise and stress testing procedures.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a clinical environment.
