EMPLOYEE OWNER POSITION PURPOSE:

The Fitness Instructor is responsible for developing and conducting physical fitness programs that are consistent with participant needs and goals. Key area of focus includes ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the attendees while providing exceptional customer service.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Guide members through initial and progressive training sessions in the areas of flexibility, aerobic conditioning, and strength training
  • Monitor the fitness center and assist members with proper technique
  • Answer questions and provide information about health promotion and overall wellbeing
  • Choreograph exercise sequences/routines for assigned classes
  • Ensure that current and proper safety procedures are used while teaching all classes and/or providing one-on-one personal training
  • Include training regarding aerobic philosophy, warm up/cool down practices, and basic anatomy/physiology based on current scientific knowledge
  • Continuously evaluate participants for engagement, ability to follow instruction, and their safety
  • Provide constructive help, both verbally and via hands-on support
  • Inspect exercise areas for equipment/supply needs and hazards
  • Monitor attendance and ensure compliance with occupancy requirements
  • Enforce fitness center rules with all members and guests
  • Participate in continuing education regarding fitness and related areas
  • Attend staff meetings as directed by management
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in fitness instruction preferred
  • Certifications related to personal training or related are highly preferred
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent)
  • Proficiency in aerobic instruction and basic fitness – generally between 1-4 years
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and address time-sensitive issues
  • Superior multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to provide high-level customer service with astute attention to detail and organization
  • Must be a team player
  • Ability to manage workflow amid shifting priorities
  • Willing to learn Company process and procedures, and learn/use proprietary software
  • Adaptable and dependable with a solid attendance record
  • Professional and respectful demeanor with all internal and external customers at all times

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Use standard office equipment, including: computer, phone, copier/scanner, etc.
  • Use standard fitness equipment, including: weights, stretching tools, and related
  • Be able to conduct and demonstrate various fitness routines for varying lengths of time
  • Be stationary or in motion for periods of time
  • Relocate up to (25) pounds
