Internacional Consultant to support Vaccination Week of the Americas

BACKGROUND:

Currently, Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) in the Americas region faces multiple challenges in different components of the program, including vaccination coverage, which has led to outbreaks of measles and other vaccine-preventable diseases in some countries in the region. It is therefore important to have a good communication strategy that complements other activities, with up-to-date, tailored, and relevant communication materials to respond to the different affected populations. At PAHO, we work with countries to create communication content tailored to the countries of the region, both digital and print, for campaigns such as Vaccination Week (VW) and World Polio Day, among others. In addition, CIM has several websites with up-to-date information on different vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) for health workers and the general public. These websites share technical information, vaccination recommendations, webinars, publications, etc., on immunization. Communication is a strategy that helps maintain and improve confidence in immunization programs and vaccines.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Under the general supervision of the CIM Executive Manager and the technical supervision of the CIM Specialist and the Communications Specialist, the consultant is responsible for, but not necessarily limited to, the following assigned responsibilities:

  • Support planning and implementation operations for PAHO's Vaccination Week of the Americas (VWA) 2027, as part of PAHO's operations to promote vaccination operations and keep the regional immunization program at the forefront of the political agenda of Member States. Participating in weekly strategic meetings.
  • Support CIM to develop all plans, remarks, presentations, hand-outs, talking points and other products that support the preparation and implementation of the VWA 2027.
  • Update all templates (e.g., plans, reports, presentations) for 2027.
  • Review and compile all country plans for VWA 2027.
  • Collaborate with the CIM communications teams to review all communications materials.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Essential: A university degree in a health-related discipline and a master's degree in epidemiology, public health, community health and engagement or in any of the fields related to the functions of the position, from a recognized institution.

Experience:

  • Essential: Seven years of combined national and international experience in risk communication and community engagement (RCCE), with emphasis on the design, implementation and evaluation of communication activities and campaigns.Experience should include participation in technical cooperation programs and activities in demand generation, risk communication or community engagement in a health-related program or institution.

Languages:

  • Essential: Fluency in Spanish or English, with working knowledge of the other language.
  • Desired: Working knowledge of French or Portuguese

IT skills:

  • Essential: Demonstrated ability to effectively use a computer and utilize software programs such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook.Ability to organize and participate in conference calls using the Zoom and MS Teams platforms.

LOCATION: The consultant will work from his/her place of residence.If necessary, he may travel to missions in the Region.

DURATION: From 1st December 2026 to 30th November 2027 with the possibility of extension depending on available funds. The daily rate applied to this contract is USD 314 (Band B). Work shift - Part Time.
