Job description

Job Title: Parish Youth Ministry Coordinator, part-time (30 hrs./wk.)

Reporting to:DRE and/or Pastor

Location: St. Joseph Catholic Church |Bradenton, FL

Classification: Salaried/Exempt

Overview

The Youth Ministry Coordinator is responsible for the planning of programming aimed at invigorating the Catholic identity of youth from grades 6-12, under the supervision of the Director of Religious Education and the Pastor

Job responsibilities

  • Coordinate the planning and development of youth programs. Continue to advance the Accompaniment project plan establishing meaningful one on one outreach to Catholic teens per diocesan guidelines, with the assistance of adult leaders. Accompaniment project short and long term goals. This includes, Middle School Youth Group gatherings at least once a month. Most likely on First Fridays from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. And High School Youth Group gatherings at least twice a month on Wednesdays from 7:00pm to 8:30pm.
  • Maintain frequent and open communication with the DRE and the Diocese of Venice Youth Ministry Office.
  • Organizing, administering and coordinating all Youth Ministry activities and communication. (Flocknote or equivalent in a regular basis with parents and youth as appropriate). This includes ordering materials and preparing the space.
  • Fulfill Administrative requirements of the position such as, requesting permission for special events, providing reports on students participation, budgeting, requesting funds and turning in expense documentation in a timely manner, complying with registration policies (WeShare registrations or equivalents) and necessary Diocesan forms.
  • Coordinate (communication) and train the volunteers and/or chaperones for weekly youth group meetings and events.
  • Organize, coordinate and run fundraising events to include the annual Rummage Sale which includes, collecting Parishioners donated items two mornings a week the four week prior to the event and five mornings the week prior to the event, organizing the donations and the space for the sale and running the sale on a Friday afternoon and subsequent Saturday from 8am to 2pm. Develop and run a plan for fundraising events i.e. raffles, etc.
  • Promote and attend annual Diocesan Youth Rally (10am to 12midnight on a Saturday in Nov), and any other mandatory Diocesan Youth Gatherings or training events.
  • Promote and attend the 5-day Veritas Summer Camp or equivalent and the weekend Ave Maria Conference. Cove Crest Camp optional.
  • Assist in planning and running Totus Tuus Summer Camp at the Parish. Mon thru Fri in mid-July.
  • Be a liaison between the Parish and the school to include visiting Middle school classrooms and after school events as schedule permits, to promote Religious Ed programs and encourage participation in Youth Ministry.
  • Use creative means to plan, organize and implement a range of social media programs.
  • Contribute to and update regularly, the Parish external social sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc. Collaborate with St Joseph School Social Media Coordinator.
  • Programming should incorporate the components of youth ministry as directed by the USCCB.
  • Obtain approval of Pastor/DRE/Business Manager for all off-premises events or special events and obtain required documents.
  • Assist with Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation according to the Sacramental Preparation Guidelines of the Diocese of Venice with Pastor and DRE. (2 to 3 hours a week).
  • Continue professional development in Theology and Youth outreach.
  • Other tasks as assigned
  • Bachelor's degree in theology or related areas of concentration.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with youth programming (employment or volunteering).
  • Work experience with middle and high school aged students.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Strong communications skills both written and oral.
  • In depth experience with media including website design, content, etc.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite.
  • Meet the requirements of safe environment policies regarding Safe Environment Training for Youth.
  • Must be able to pass a level II FDLE background check.
