SUMMARY
Hourly rate will be determined based on market rate, experience and discipline.
This is a Part-Time Staff Pool in our Continuing Education Workforce Development (CEWD) department for available assignments during the academic year. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
The Instructor will teach a variety of forklift courses and provide quality instruction in a safe environment to students in accordance with Alvin College policies and procedures. This position requires the individual to follow the current course outlines, objectives, evaluate student competencies and maintain safety procedures within the class.The instructor constantly evaluates their effectiveness in the classroom by helping students obtain course learning outcomes and the impact that they have on student retention.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Follows all state and federal regulations while operating powered industrial trucks
  • Instructs students on the basic controls and safe handling of powered industrial trucks
  • Maintains issued equipment and property
  • Instructs students on the basics of handling hazardous materials
  • Adheres to Alvin College's policies and procedures.
  • Attends institutional meetings as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The incumbent will work in a warehouse or storage facility, as well as outdoors. The work environment is potentially noisy, and can be physically demanding, with exposure to varying temperatures depending on the season. The employee is expected to work both indoors and outdoors. Must be flexible with the ability to workdays, nights and/or weekends with the understanding that available hours will be based on the needs of the program not to exceed 19 hours per week. Must be flexible and understand a minimum number of hours is not guaranteed and that classes may be cancelled and/or rescheduled due to minimal notice due to student need.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to twenty (20) pounds.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience operating powered industrial trucks (forklifts)
  • Experience in a warehouse, distribution center or equivalent work experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Basic computer proficiency using Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Basic proficiency in online tools such as Blackboard.
  • Must have sufficient knowledge, skills, and experience to instruct and assess students within their class.
  • Must be able to assess the capabilities of students using approved criteria
  • Must be familiar with OSHA regulations regarding forklifts.
  • The instructor will frequently perform autonomously and must be self-motivated.
  • Will be required to proceed with independent actions with mutually established guidelines and minimal supervision from the CEWD Business Training Consultant.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Some Trade school, Forklift training, and/or 5 years of experience operating power industrial trucks.
  • Experience in instructing/examining the operation of forklifts
  • Multiple classes of forklift experience (Class V Preferred)
  • Experience handling hazardous materials
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
