Position Type: Part-Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Compensation: $20.00/hour
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 1:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (subject to occasional adjustment based on school needs)
Reports To: Director of Operations
Position Overview
Atlas Public Schools is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and detail-oriented Part-Time Custodian to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming school environment for students, staff, and families. The ideal candidate takes pride in creating orderly spaces, responds proactively to building needs, and understands the importance of cleanliness in supporting student learning and school operations.
This role is especially important during afternoon dismissal, after-school programming, and evening building reset to ensure the school is ready for the next day.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Cleaning & Building Maintenance
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors throughout classrooms, hallways, offices, bathrooms, and common spaces
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, counters, and replenishing supplies
  • Empty trash and recycling throughout the building and replace liners
  • Wipe down and disinfect high-touch surfaces including door handles, light switches, desks, tables, and shared spaces
  • Clean windows, glass doors, and interior surfaces as needed
  • Maintain cafeteria/common eating spaces after student use
  • Support classroom reset and cleaning after the school day

Building Setup & Support
  • Reset classrooms, offices, and shared spaces for the following school day
  • Monitor building cleanliness throughout shift and address urgent cleaning needs promptly
  • Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, supply shortages, or repair needs to manager

Safety & Compliance
  • Follow school safety protocols and proper cleaning procedures
  • Safely handle cleaning supplies, equipment, and materials
  • Ensure building spaces remain secure during evening hours
  • Support emergency cleanup needs as necessary

Additional Duties
  • Support occasional special projects such as deep cleaning during school breaks or event support
  • Perform other custodial and facilities-related duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Previous custodial, janitorial, facilities, or maintenance experience preferred
  • Ability to work independently with strong time management skills
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality required
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, stand, walk, climb stairs, and perform physical cleaning tasks throughout the shift
  • Ability to use standard custodial equipment and cleaning supplies safely
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining clean environments
  • Ability to pass required background screening
