Description
WREC is one of the largest electric cooperatives in the US with over 281,000 members and over 12,000 miles of distribution and sub-transmission line. WREC's service area is located along Florida's Nature Coast in Pasco, Hernando, and Citrus counties and is conveniently situated between Tampa, Orlando, and the gulf beaches.
This position is designed to provide exposure to various departments and projects allowing the ability to apply academic knowledge in a real-world setting. It will also provide the chance to gain valuable hands-on experience at a dynamic and innovative distribution utility by collaborating with experienced professionals, contributing to meaningful projects, and developing a diverse skill set in electric distribution engineering.
The position will continue through the selected candidate's college enrollment, contingent upon ongoing performance and the continued needs of the organization.
Requirements
Enrolled in Junior year or higher in an ABET accredited college or university and enrolled in the Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering program.
A minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Knowledge of electrical engineering/power systems' general properties and fundamental
Strong written communication skills.
Responsibilities:
• Assist in the design and analysis of the distribution/transmission system.
• Conduct field surveys and gather data on existing distribution infrastructure.
• Assist with load flow analysis and voltage drop calculations to ensure optimal system performance.
• Collaborate with senior engineers to develop distribution system improvement plans.
• Assist in the preparation of engineering drawings, specifications, and project cost estimates.
• Support the evaluation and implementation of distribution automation technologies.
• Assist in the planning and coordination of maintenance and upgrade activities for distribution, substation, and transmission equipment.
• Participate in system reliability assessments and identify areas for improvement.
• Assist with the preparation of reports, presentations, and documentation related to distribution engineering projects.
• Participate in meetings with cross-functional teams to discuss project progress and provide input on distribution-related matters.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department.
