What is a part time engineering internship?

A part time engineering internship is a temporary position for students or recent graduates to gain practical experience in the engineering field while working fewer hours than a full-time role, typically around 10-30 hours per week. These internships allow individuals to apply theoretical knowledge from their studies to real-world projects, often while continuing their education. Part time internships can help build valuable technical and professional skills, offer networking opportunities, and enhance a resume for future job applications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time engineering intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Engineering Intern, you generally need a solid understanding of engineering fundamentals, coursework in your specific discipline, and current enrollment in an accredited engineering program. Familiarity with technical tools like CAD software, MATLAB, and project management systems is often expected, and some positions may require proficiency in programming languages or lab equipment. Strong problem-solving abilities, eagerness to learn, teamwork, and effective communication help interns stand out. These skills and qualities are important because they enable interns to contribute meaningfully to projects, adapt quickly to new tasks, and maximize their learning in a professional environment.

How do part time engineering interns typically balance project responsibilities with their academic commitments?

Part-time engineering interns often juggle project tasks alongside their coursework, so effective time management is essential. Employers usually provide flexible schedules and clear project timelines to accommodate academic obligations. Interns are encouraged to communicate proactively with their supervisors to ensure deadlines are met and expectations are aligned. Collaborating with teammates and leveraging available resources can also help interns stay on track and gain valuable hands-on experience without compromising their studies.

Job description

Please keep in mind that this is a part-time role with 20 hours per week.
Imagine getting a front-row seat to how an AI company expands into a new market. At Synera, we build AI agents that do real engineering work for companies like BMW, Airbus, and NASA. Our US team is growing fast, and we need someone organized, curious, and hands-on to help us show up at the right events and fuel our marketing in North America.
If you're an engineering student who wants practical B2B marketing experience at a company where AI isn't a buzzword but the actual product, keep reading.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
You'll split your time roughly 50/50 between two focus areas: supporting our Global Events Lead with US event execution, and helping our Head of Marketing (US) with campaigns, marketing automation, and web content. You'll work alongside a small, collaborative team that spans the US and Germany, and you'll use AI tools daily to move faster and work smarter.
Besides the Marketing team, you'll work with our engineering teams and Synera's agentic AI platform.
This is a supporting role focused on execution and coordination. You won't own entire workstreams from day one, but you'll contribute to real projects with real impact, and take on more responsibility as you grow into the role.
Events (~50%, with the Global Events Lead)
Update and maintain the event tracker; check in with vendors and chase quotes, deliverables, and deadlines; help prepare logistics and materials for upcoming US events (including occasional shipping and on-site setup); review speaker materials and registrations; help collect post-event metrics; and use AI to summarize feedback or draft supporting materials.
Marketing (~50%, with the Head of Marketing US)
You'll apply your engineering lens to research paid advertising opportunities to grow Synera's awareness in the US; co-manage logistics for ad placements; build AI agents to help publish web content like blog posts and press releases; support email automation and audience segmentation in HubSpot; and use AI tools to streamline repetitive tasks across the marketing workflow.
In 6 months:
You keep trackers and checklists reliable without reminders. You coordinate vendors and follow-ups on your own. You make sure speakers, materials, and registration links are error-free and on time. You've started suggesting improvements and new ideas. You can build an AI agent to automate a repetitive marketing task.
In 12 months:
You're a dependable, well-integrated team member who supports US events smoothly, contributes to both the events and marketing workstreams, and has taken on a few recurring responsibilities independently. You're the go-to person for supporting tasks across both halves of the role.
Here is our team at the summer event - join us at the next one!
WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?
We believe in transparent conversations about compensation from the start. For this role, our planned salary is $25/h.
What we offer beyond salary:
  • You'll work alongside experts in marketing, events, engineering and AI, and get paid to build skills that will set up your career.
  • You'll get hands-on experience across event coordination, campaign execution, marketing automation, and AI-powered workflows - not just one narrow slice.
  • You'll learn the dynamics of working at the AI scale-up whose customers include BMW, Airbus, and NASA.
  • We build your schedule around your classes and exams. During semester breaks, you can pick up additional hours if you'd like.
  • We don't believe in one-size-fits-all - you decide when and where to work (as long as you have US residency and are based in the Boston area).
  • Spend time with your colleagues during regular team events and off-sites. We get the whole company together once a year somewhere fun, and organize local meet-ups!

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
Even if you don't meet these criteria perfectly but believe you have lots to bring to the role, we encourage you to apply. We know it's tough, but please keep in mind that you don't have to match all the listed requirements exactly to be considered for this role.
  • You resonate with Synera's Core Values - they're central to how we work, and we'll explore them together in your first interview.
  • You're currently enrolled in an engineering-related Bachelor's or Master's program (or marketing, communications, business, event management).
  • You're based in the greater Boston, MA area and legally authorized to work in the US.
  • You're available for at least 8 months (ideally longer - we're looking for someone who wants to stick around and grow with us).
  • You have some hands-on experience - even 4-6 months from an internship, part-time role, or substantial student project in marketing, events, or coordination counts.
  • You're organized and reliable. You keep track of details, follow through on tasks, and don't need constant reminders.
  • You communicate clearly in written and spoken English.
  • You use AI tools already (Claude, ChatGPT, or others) and you're curious about how AI can make marketing work faster and smarter.
  • You're a self-starter who's comfortable working remotely and staying motivated without someone looking over your shoulder.

P.S. Synera is a place where everyone can grow. So, however you identify and whatever background you bring with you, please apply if this is a role that would make you excited to come to work every day, and be prepared to share with us how your perspective will bring something unique and valuable to our Marketing team.
