Chipton-Ross is seeking a Mechanical Engineer 4 for a contract opportunity in Pascagoula, MS.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology with 10 years' experience in the shipbuilding industry required; 7 years of relevant professional experience with a Master's Degree; 4 years of relevant professional experience with a PhD. MS Office products experience required. Must have experience in MIL-S-901D/MIL-DTL-901E Shock and MIL-STD-167-1 Qualification of LPD Class Ship equipment and a complete understanding of shock and vibration principles, theories, and concepts along with exposure to general ship construction and testing practices.
A Secret level security clearance, or the ability to obtain a Secret l level security clearance, is required.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines. Responsible for performing all engineering functions associated with shock and environmental vibration qualification of equipment including preparation of reports, drawings, supporting engineering calculations, and other documentation as required. Will be required to apply engineering standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjust and correlate data, recognize discrepancies in results, and follow engineering operations through a series of detailed steps or processes. Must provide support for technical design in the areas of equipment shock and environmental vibration. Also, must perform technical reviews for qualification of equipment in the areas of equipment shock and environmental vibration. Required to develop and analyze equipment/structure to verify shock and environmental vibration specifications are met. Also required to provide support the completion of procurement specifications and Technical Purchase Requisition Statements of Work. Must serve as liaison between the Shock and Vibration engineering organization and other internal technical and program organizations as well as Government technical and program organizations. Must represent the Shock and Vibration engineering organization in meetings and correspondence in order to resolve difficult technical issues. Must be able to work with limited direction and independently complete assigned tasking with limited supervision. Required to apply standard engineering practices, scientific principles and techniques to specific situations and recognize discrepancies. Must have the ability to interact and present information verbally and in writing to internal and external customers in a clear and professional manner.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)
An intuitive knowledge of major shipboard mechanical and electromechanical systems and components along with troubleshooting and problem-solving skills is also preferred.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology.
School must be accredited.
WORK HOURS
5/40, workweek. Part-time position. 24 hrs./week.
