Part Time Engineer Remote information

What is a Part Time Engineer Remote?

A Part Time Engineer Remote is a professional engineer who works fewer hours than a full-time position, typically on a flexible or reduced schedule, and performs their duties from a remote location, such as their home. These roles involve contributing to engineering projects, collaborating with team members online, and using digital tools to complete tasks. Remote part-time engineering positions provide greater flexibility and can be ideal for those seeking work-life balance or accommodating other commitments. The specific responsibilities and required skills depend on the engineering discipline and employer needs.

How do part-time remote engineers typically collaborate with full-time team members and stay engaged with ongoing projects?

Part-time remote engineers often collaborate using digital tools such as Slack, Zoom, and project management platforms like Jira or Trello to stay connected with full-time colleagues. Regular check-ins, clear documentation, and proactive communication are key to ensuring alignment on project goals and timelines. While working fewer hours can be challenging in terms of staying updated, successful part-time engineers make a point to participate in team meetings and contribute to shared code reviews. This approach helps maintain strong working relationships and ensures their input is valued within the team.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Engineer in a remote setting, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Engineer working remotely, you need a solid background in engineering fundamentals, a relevant degree, and experience in your specific discipline. Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Slack, Jira, and version control systems like Git, as well as proficiency in industry-standard software or programming languages, is typically required. Excellent time management, self-motivation, and clear written communication are crucial soft skills for managing projects independently and staying connected with distributed teams. These skills and qualities ensure productivity, high-quality deliverables, and effective collaboration despite working remotely and part-time.

At Booz Allen, you'll join a team using advanced imaging, physics-based modeling, and AI/ML to solve some of the nation's most compelling Space Domain Awareness (SDA) and remote sensing challenges. You'll contribute to the design and development of high-fidelity processing pipelines that transform raw sensor data into insight.
You'll join a collaborative technical delivery team where you'll contribute to secure, reliable, user centric tools that accelerate mission outcomes.
What You'll Do:
  • Develop software tools for radiometric modeling and satellite observation geometry
  • Implement imaging and signal processing workflows including motion compensation, multi-frame alignment, and super-resolution
  • Build ML enabled detection, anomaly identification, and object classification modules using operational EO/IR and synthetic datasets
  • Design scientific Python pipelines, such as NumPy, OpenCV, Astropy, or SciPy, for real time and batch processing
  • Support orbital modeling tasks, such as SGP4, TLE ingestion, or basic pose estimation
  • Conduct imagery preprocessing such as radiometric calibration, artifact correction, and multi-frame filtering
  • Maintain reproducible environments using GitLab, containers, and experiment-tracking tools
  • Collaborate with astrodynamics SMEs, operations personnel, and ML engineers to deliver integrated mission capabilities

Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have:
  • 4+ years of experience with remote sensing, image processing, or GEOINT data exploitation
  • Experience designing, modifying, developing, writing, and implementing software programming applications using agile methods
  • Experience with Python and scientific Python packages such as NumPy, SciPy, OpenCV, or xarray
  • Experience with basic orbital mechanics
  • Experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
  • Experience with large sensor datasets such as HDF5 or cloud object storage
  • Active TS/SCI clearance; willingness to take a polygraph exam
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience with administration of continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using Kubernetes, Docker, or Jenkins
  • Experience with sensor phenomenology, radiometric calibration, or remote sensing interpretation
  • Experience with super-resolution, deblurring, spectral exploitation, or resolved feature extraction
  • Experience with uncertainty quantification, Kalman filtering, or tracking algorithms
  • Experience with AI augmented development workflows or agentic tools
  • Experience with GitLab based CI/CD workflows
  • Master's degree in an engineering field, or Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related STEM field

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI clearance is required.
