Salary: $20.75/Hour Minimum

Daily Hours: 4-6 hours/day
Work Year: 12 months

Civil Service Title: Automotive Mechanic
Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:
(A) Graduation with an Associate's degree or possession of a certificate, either of which must be in an automotive
field; OR,
(B) Six (6) months paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as an automotive mechanic; OR,
(C) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B), above.
NOTE: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or
specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of
Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories,
you must provide independent verification of equivalency. A list of acceptable companies who provide this service
can be found on the Internet at http://www.cs.ny.gov/jobseeker/degrees.cfm. You must pay the required evaluation
fee.
Desired Qualifications:
Thorough knowledge of hydraulics and diesel and gasoline engines;
Good knowledge of State Department of Transportation rules and regulations governing the repair and maintenance of buses;
Ability to diagnose problems of all systems, diesel engine, air brakes, and hydraulics;
Possess valid CDL-B with PS Endorsement by the end of probationary period.
Position Summary/Responsibilities:
Performs heavy equipment and automotive repairs to gasoline, diesel engines, and hydraulic systems;
Repairs and rebuilds all automotive systems such as cooling, electrical, exhaust, steering and suspension, fuel system, brake, and drive train;
Repairs preventative maintenance functions including lubrication, fluid checks, minor tune-ups and safety inspections of trucks, buses, and other heavy equipment;
Operates machine shop equipment such as grinder, drill presses and other working machine to make, rebuild or repair parts for automotive equipment;
Diagnoses chronic automotive problems caused by maladjustments, worn, damaged, or defective parts;
Performs New York State authorized inspections of all District owned vehicles.
