Job description

Job Title: Elementary Reading Tutor - CIS HOT

Job Classification: Community Service, Student

Department: Off Campus Community Service 

Hiring Manager: Antonia Holt

Work Schedule: Flexible between 8-4 M-F

Desired Length of Employment: Fall/Spring 

Pay Rate: $12

Key Components:

This position is reserved for Federal Work Study (FWS) students only. 

Job Title: Elementary Reading Tutor 
Reading will help students in the academic subject of reading. This includes primarily assisting students with homework. Tutors are required to attend periodic meetings and professional trainings that will equip them to be more effective. Tutors are responsible for completing detailed service logs for each student that they work with. 
Duties and responsibilities 
Coordinate with CIS Volunteer Director on scheduling, implementation, and evaluation of tutoring services 
Establish and maintain positive relationships with all students 
Establish and maintain positive working relationships with CIS staff 
Ensure the CIS program objectives are implemented as outlined contractually 
Maintain a working knowledge of CIS and district policies and procedures 
Maintain complete and accurate documentation 
Attend meetings, trainings and other required functions of CIS 
Other duties as assigned 
Experience & Qualifications 
Enrolled in Baylor University and must be federal work study eligible. 
Must be Spanish speaking.
Strong communication skills. 
Excellent organizational, time management and computer proficiency. 
Well-groomed and professional appearance. 
Ability to function in diverse job situation. 
Ability to transport oneself to and from the work site. 
Must complete and clear Criminal Background Check 
Spanish speaking a plus 
 

  • Work with local organization(s) or community partners
  • Provide excellent customer service as a representative of the University
  • May assist with planning, organizing, and implementing community services or programs
  • May assist with various projects, activities or tasks related to community projects
  • May contribute to developing and maintaining good relationships with internal and external partners
  • May serve as a source to provide information about resources and assistance related to community program(s) or service(s)
  • May serve to enhance outreach for the greater Waco community 
  • Ensure confidentiality of all pertinent information
  • May prepare and present information in a group or workshop setting
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission  
  • Ability to comply with University policies  
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
