A Part-Time Electrical Design job involves creating and developing electrical systems, schematics, and layouts for various projects while working fewer hours than a full-time position. Responsibilities may include circuit design, PCB layout, wiring diagrams, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. These roles are often found in industries like manufacturing, construction, or product development. Part-time positions offer flexibility and can be suitable for freelancers, students, or professionals looking for reduced work hours.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed for part time electrical design?

A strong background in electrical engineering principles, proficiency in circuit design, and experience with drafting tools or CAD software are essential for a Part Time Electrical Design role. Familiarity with industry-standard tools such as AutoCAD, MATLAB, or EAGLE, and relevant certifications (like EIT or PE) are often highly valued. Excellent teamwork, attention to detail, and effective time management are key soft skills that help candidates excel. These competencies ensure the production of accurate and innovative electrical designs while meeting project deadlines and collaborating effectively with colleagues.

What do part time electrical design professionals do?

As a Part Time Electrical Design professional, you will typically assist with designing electrical systems, preparing technical drawings, and collaborating on project specifications under the guidance of senior engineers. Full and part-time positions may become available, contingent upon curriculum needs, student enrollment and the availability of funding. Applicants will need expertise and desire to teach in various areas of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Current teaching opportunities specifically exist in programming, software engineering and software systems, embedded systems, computer engineering and computer system design. We are also looking for professional-track faculty to teach engineering communication, senior design capstone projects as well as entrepreneurial activities. Successful candidates are expected to teach our diverse undergraduate and graduate student populations.
Application Instructions
All applications must be submitted electronically via UT Austin Interfolio. We will begin evaluation of applications immediately and will continue to consider applications on an on-going basis.
