Job description

Job Summary

Each year, MedSchoolCoach supports more than a thousand pre-medical and medical students as they pursue successful careers in medicine. As physicians who have personally navigated the medical school and residency application process, we provide expert guidance grounded in firsthand experience.

We are seeking highly accomplished physicians to serve as Master Physician Advisors. This role is designed for physicians with extensive admissions expertise, significant mentoring experience, and a passion for helping future physicians succeed. Master Advisors serve as trusted experts, providing strategic, high-level advising to applicants throughout every stage of the medical school and residency application process.

This opportunity is ideal for retired physicians or physicians who have transitioned away from full-time clinical practice and are interested in dedicating 20+ hours per week to mentoring the next generation of physicians.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a senior advisor to pre-medical students applying to medical school.
  • Advise medical students applying to residency through the ERAS and NRMP Match process (when applicable).
  • Conduct comprehensive one-on-one advising sessions focused on application strategy, competitiveness, career planning, and professional development.
  • Provide expert guidance on school selection, application timelines, interview preparation, and admissions strategy.
  • Collaborate with writing advisors to develop and refine personal statements, secondary essays, activities descriptions, and residency application materials.
  • Conduct high-level mock interviews and deliver detailed, actionable feedback.
  • Share firsthand admissions committee and residency selection committee insights to help students better understand evaluation criteria and strengthen their candidacy.
  • Participate in webinars, educational content creation, blogs, workshops, and other thought leadership initiatives.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and ambassador for MedSchoolCoach's advising program.
Required Qualifications
  • MD degree from an accredited U.S. medical school.
  • Successful completion of an accredited U.S. residency training program.
  • Significant experience serving on a medical school admissions committee and/or residency selection committee.
  • Minimum of two years of advising, mentoring, teaching, admissions, or residency selection experience.
  • Deep understanding of the AMCAS application process.
  • Strong knowledge of the ERAS application and NRMP Match processes.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and inspire students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Highly available to students (20+ hours per week).
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Word, Zoom, Google Meet, Gmail, and other communication platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in academic medicine, medical education, or faculty leadership.
  • Experience interviewing and selecting medical school or residency applicants.
  • Previous experience advising students through successful medical school admissions and/or residency matching.
  • Retired physicians and physicians practicing part-time are strongly encouraged to apply.
About MedSchoolCoach

MedSchoolCoach is a rapidly growing EdTech company dedicated to helping future physicians achieve their goals through expert advising, tutoring, software, and educational resources. Founded and led by physicians, MedSchoolCoach has become one of the largest organizations in the medical education space, reaching nearly half of all prospective medical students each year through one or more of our products and services.

Working at MedSchoolCoach

We are a distributed team of physicians, educators, advisors, tutors, and entrepreneurs who share a passion for improving healthcare through education. We value collaboration, initiative, integrity, and a genuine commitment to student success.

Our team enjoys the flexibility of remote work while making a meaningful impact on the next generation of physicians. We strive to create an environment where every team member can contribute their expertise, continue growing professionally, and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

I think this version creates a much clearer distinction between your standard Physician Advisor role and the Master level. It positions these physicians as true experts whose value comes not only from being physicians, but from their admissions committee experience, residency selection expertise, and strategic advising capabilities. It should also make sourcing easier because candidates can immediately recognize that this is a more prestigious, senior opportunity.
