THE OPPORTUNITY
The Registered Nurse at GBGH provides a leadership role within the patient care team and provides care in situations in which the patient's condition is complex and the patient care outcomes are not predictable. Within the scope of practice, as the Registered Nurse you will promote health, assesses and provides care and treatment by supportive, preventative, therapeutic, palliative and rehabilitative means to attain or maintain optimal function for the patient.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will possess the following key competencies, record of experience and academic preparation:

  • Current certificate of registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
  • Must be compliant with College of Nurses quality assurance standards
  • Current B.C.L.S Certification essential, on hire 
  • V. therapy (peripheral & central)
  • C.A. pump
  • Glucometer
  • E.D
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively and co-operatively with all levels of staff, patients and the public
  • Demonstrated good communication, organizational and time management skills
  • Proven ability to adapt readily to change
  • Must be able to fulfill physical requirements of the job, as per current Physical Demands Analysis
  • Must meet expectations for appropriate, respectful and professional conduct, as set out in the GBGH Code of Conduct
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in an inpatient setting
  • Demonstrated experience working independently within a team setting
  • Critical thinking and demonstrated decision-making skills

ASSETS

  • Completion of Physical Assessment of Adult Patient course
  • 2 years’ experience on a Complex Continuing Care, Rehabilitation and/or Palliative Unit
  • Excellent physical assessment skills / strong assessment skills for physical, emotional & spiritual needs
  • Palliative care or hospice training courses
  • Computerized Documentation (i.e. Meditech)
  • Bilingual - English and French

HOURS OF WORK
Permanent Part Time. Must be available to work shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements and as per the ONA collective agreement.
