What is part time dog grooming?

Part time dog grooming refers to working as a dog groomer on a schedule that is less than full-time hours, often ranging from a few hours a week to several days, depending on the employer or personal business setup. Part time dog groomers provide services such as bathing, trimming, brushing, and nail clipping for dogs. This role is ideal for those who enjoy working with animals but may have other commitments or want flexible working hours. Many pet salons, veterinary clinics, and mobile grooming services hire part time groomers. Some groomers also work independently, setting their own schedules.

What are the typical daily responsibilities for a part-time dog groomer?

As a part-time dog groomer, your daily tasks often include bathing, drying, brushing, and trimming pets according to breed standards or client preferences. You will also check for skin conditions, clean ears, and trim nails, all while ensuring the animals are comfortable and safe. Working part-time can mean a varied schedule, so adaptability and strong communication with clients and coworkers are important. Additionally, maintaining a clean work area and keeping grooming tools sanitized are essential parts of the role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part-time dog groomer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Dog Groomer, you need hands-on experience or training in animal handling, coat care, and breed-specific grooming techniques, often supported by a certificate from a grooming school or relevant coursework. Familiarity with grooming tools like clippers, shears, and pet dryers, as well as booking or scheduling software, is typically expected. Patience, attention to detail, and strong customer service skills help groomers build trust with both pets and their owners. These abilities are crucial for ensuring animal safety, client satisfaction, and efficient daily operations in a grooming environment.

Job description

We are seeking a part-time Dog Groomer to join our team! We are a full service salon. This starts as part time and has the potential to move to full time for the right candidate. You will be responsible for providing grooming services to our pet clients and to help maintain the well-being of the pets at our Resort.

Responsibilities:

  • Handle general grooming tasks and care such as bathing, de-matts, breed specific cuts, and other spa services (teeth brushing, nail clip/grind, anal gland expression, hair dye, ear cleaning, etc.) of the animals
  • Assess and communicate any health issues or concerns to pet owners
  • Maintain a clean and healthy environment
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high volume environment
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, with frequent walking and the occasional heavy lifting of large dogs
  • Comfortable working with dogs of all ages, sizes, and temperaments
  • Flexibility: our Resort is open for grooming Monday-Friday and (ideally) two Saturdays a month

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of professional grooming experience preferred (can provide grooming supplies if needed)
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Passion to help and beautify animals
  • Ability to interact with animals in a calm, non-threatening manner
  • A team player with strong company values

We are a local, small business with a passion for animals! Our Resort is for small dogs, but we do offer grooming services to dogs of all ages and sizes. We are looking for a groomer who has their own clients, but is not a dealbreaker, and is looking for the private shop experience. This job is commission based and has benefits (health insurance and 401k) after 90 days.

We provide equal employment opportunities to all applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sexual orientation, age, or disability.

Please email Office@CrateEscapeResort.com with your resume and inquires!
