Job description

Role:

Supports the credit union’s collections and recovery efforts by performing various clerical tasks such as file maintenance, document processing, record updates, and report preparation. Responds promptly to inquiries from members, departments, and third parties. Handles credit disputes, member hardship requests, insurance and total loss claims, and payment reminders for delinquent accounts. Provides assistance and guidance to members to help them understand their financial obligations, addressing missed payments, or broken repayment agreements.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs necessary clerical duties relevant to the department, maintains general files, and scans documents. Responds to emails, texts messages, and instant messages in a timely manner. Receives, sorts, and distributes incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Processes total loss claims, GAP claims, warranty claims/cancellations, and Credit Life/Disability claims. Prepares and provides loan payoffs. Maintain departmental logs.
  • Assist in the review and preparation of modifications and extensions.
  • Works effectively with external collections and recovery firms, legal counsels, and government agencies
  • Processes payment reminders and contacts members with negative shares and early delinquent loans. Provides backup support for collectors, handling outbound and inbound calls. Accepts and processes debt payments and payoffs.
  • Completes the research of dispute letters and responds to member disputes via eOscar.
  • Attends assigned training sessions and stays current on new operational procedures.
  • Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant problems. Attends and actively participates in meetings as required.
  • Oversees and/or completes all tasks and projects, as assigned, accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that all sensitive/confidential information is maintained is a safe and secure manner.
  • Complies with all BHSFFCU policies and procedures. Responsible for compliance of all Federal and State rules and regulations pertaining but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering, Bank Bribery Act, NCUA Privacy Regulations, Sarbanes Oxley controls, Business Ethics and Standard of Conduct, Electronic Communications, Confidentiality and Privacy, FCRA/FACTA and Fair Debt Collections Act.

Knowledge and Skills

EXPERIENCE

Six months to two years of similar or related experience, including time spent in preparatory positions.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

High school graduate or equivalent.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required to be an effective subject matter expert in the position. In- depth dialogues, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports, and outside vendors of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature is a normal part of the day-to-day experience.

Communications can involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work environment with moderate noise.

MENTAL AND/OR EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to perform job functions independently and with limited supervision. Must work effectively as part of a team.
