The Club's regatta schedule is one of the most competitive in the world, playing host to 140+ days of racing, including several Grade 1 International regattas.

Launch Boat Captain (Part-Time/Seasonal)
Position Summary
The Launch Boat Captain is responsible for the safe, courteous, and efficient operation of the yacht club's launch vessel, transporting members, guests, supplies, and equipment between King Island Marina in designated locations in coastal waters. The Captain serves as a representative of the club, providing exceptional customer service while ensuring compliance with all U.S. Coast Guard regulations and club policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Safely operate launch vessels in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local maritime regulations.
  • Transport members, guests, and approved materials between docks, moorings and other designated locations.
  • Conduct pre-departure and post-operation vessel inspections to ensure vessel readiness and safety.
  • Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking in a safe and professional manner.
  • Monitor weather, sea state, tides, and other environmental conditions affecting vessel operations.
  • Maintain awareness of navigational hazards and ensure safe vessel handling at all times.
  • Communicate effectively via marine radio and other communication systems.
  • Manage fueling operations in accordance with environmental and safety requirements.
  • Conduct passenger safety briefings as required.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, including man-overboard situations, equipment failures, and medical incidents.
  • Maintain accurate operational logs, inspection records, fuel records, and other required documentation.
  • Support club events by providing launch transportation and on-water assistance as assigned.
  • Assist with implementation of vessel safety procedures.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and provide outstanding customer service to members and guests.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by club management.

Required Qualifications
  • Valid United States Coast Guard (USCG) Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV/Six-Pack) License or USCG Master License (25, 50, or 100 Ton).
  • Current Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), if required.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Ability to safely operate passenger-carrying vessels in coastal waters.
  • Knowledge of applicable Coast Guard regulations, navigation rules, and maritime safety procedures.
  • Experience docking, maneuvering, and operating small commercial vessels in varying weather and sea conditions.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous launch service, yacht club, marina, or commercial passenger vessel experience.
  • Familiarity with local waterways, harbor operations, and navigational aids.
  • Experience supporting sailing events, regattas, or marine hospitality operations.
  • Additional marine safety certifications.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to board, disembark, and work aboard vessels in varying weather and sea conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, bend, reach, climb, and maintain balance on moving surfaces.
  • Ability to assist passengers during boarding and disembarkation.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in sun, wind, rain, and marine environments.

Work Environment
  • Primarily outdoor marine environment.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, vessel motion, noise, and marine equipment.
  • Schedule may include weekends, holidays, evenings, and special events.
  • Part-time and seasonal position with hours varying based on club operations and member demand.
