Position SummaryThe Assistant Teacher works closely with the Head Teacher to support the daily operation of the classroom and help create a safe, engaging, and welcoming environment for young children. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working as part of a team and is passionate about early childhood education.
ScheduleThis is a part-time, school-year position.
Hours: Tuesday and Thursday, 8:30 a.m.โ1:00 p.m. (includes classroom setup and cleanup)
Additional hours may be available during the week based on the needs of the program.
Village Green Nursery School operates from late August through mid-June and is closed during the summer months.
What You'll Do- Assist the Head Teacher in implementing daily classroom activities and routines.
- Review lesson plans and help prepare classroom materials before children arrive.
- Supervise children throughout the day, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Foster positive relationships with children and families through kindness, professionalism, and excellent communication.
- Use positive guidance and developmentally appropriate behavior management techniques.
- Monitor classroom learning areas as directed by the Head Teacher.
- Assist with classroom setup, cleanup, and maintaining an organized learning environment.
- Work collaboratively with the teaching team while following Village Green Nursery School policies and procedures.
- Attend required staff meetings, annual training, and a small number of evening school events throughout the year.
Requirements- Have a genuine love of working with preschool-aged children.
- Be dependable, organized, flexible, and able to manage multiple tasks in a busy classroom.
- Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as basic computer skills.
- Work well as part of a collaborative teaching team.
- Be committed to providing a positive, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.
- Must clear a full background check.
- Must pass required health screenings.
- CPR and First Aid certified or willing to obtain.
- Administration of Medication and Epi-Pen training or willingness to obtain.
- Lift a minimum of 40 pounds and work indoors or outdoors.
- Must be able to assume low-level postures to allow physical and visual contact with children, see and hear well enough to keep children safe, and engage in physical activity with children.
- Must have or be willing to earn a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
