Junior Software Developer -- Remote

Job description

We're hiring a Junior Software Developer to join a small, fast-moving engineering team building a consumer-facing web application.

Summary
  • Flexible Title: Can tailor to reflect your skills & experience.
  • Flexible Time: Can do full-time, part-time, side-gig (off-hours), or fractional (contract).
  • Flexible Commitment: Can do short-term, long-term, or intermittent.
  • No degree required. Bootcamp grads, self-taught developers, and career changers welcome.

Why so flexible? We're a FUNDED startup racing to launch end of Q3 2026. That gives us just 3 months to stack features while raising additional working capital. Feel free to jump in, help us ship, then bounce >> or stick around. A successful launch translates into lots of permanent jobs for those that want them. We're also interested in long-term "side gig" relationships, if that's what you're into—in our experience, a few expert hours often beat full-time learning-curve hours.

About Us

We're a credible, funded, remote-first startup backed by a growing team. We're pre-launch and moving fast.

About The Role

We have a working product and a real engineering team — you won't be building alone or guessing what to work on. What we need is another pair of hands who can pick up well-scoped tickets, ship clean code, and grow fast in a codebase that's already structured and documented.

This is a real opportunity to learn from senior engineers in a production environment, not a "junior developer" role where you're actually alone building the whole thing. You'll work on features that real users interact with, get code reviews that teach you something, and have direct access to senior engineers.

Compensation

Up to $95,000 max total annual compensation in Tier 1 cities; cash and equity components to be negotiated. Given the flexible commitment model, comp will be structured accordingly — fractional or hourly arrangements welcome.

What You'll Do in Your First 7 Days
  • You've gotten your local development environment running and submitted your first PR
  • You've reviewed the codebase structure and understand where things live
  • You've attended your first engineering standup and know how the team communicates
  • You've picked up a starter ticket and shipped (or nearly shipped) a small feature or fix
  • The team knows who you are, why you're here, and how you'll work together
What You'll Do Ongoing
  • Build features — pick up tickets, implement them, get them reviewed, ship them
  • Fix bugs — investigate issues, trace them through the stack, and resolve them
  • Write tests — maintain and extend test coverage as you go
  • Participate in code reviews — review others' code and learn from reviews of yours
  • Improve as an engineer — ask questions, pair when stuck, and level up through real production work
What We're Looking For

Must-haves:

  • Solid fundamentals in a modern frontend framework (React, Vue, Angular) and a backend language (Python, Ruby, Node — we'll teach you whichever you're missing)
  • Can read and navigate an existing codebase — you don't need everything explained line by line
  • Understand the basics: version control (Git), REST APIs, relational databases
  • Self-directed learner — you Google before you ask, but you ask before you're stuck for hours
  • Strong async communicator — you write clear PR descriptions and flag blockers early

Nice-to-have:

  • Previous contributions to open source or side projects you can show
  • Bootcamp, CS degree, or self-taught — we care about what you can do, not how you learned it
  • Comfortable in fast-moving, ambiguous environments
What You're NOT
  • Not a solo developer — you'll have senior engineers to learn from and a structured codebase to work in
  • Not a DevOps / infra hire — we have that covered; you're building product features
  • Not expected to be an expert — we're hiring for trajectory, not years of experience
