What is a part time data governance role?

A Part Time Data Governance role involves overseeing and managing data policies, standards, and practices within an organization, but on a part-time basis. These professionals ensure that data is accurate, accessible, and secure by creating guidelines for data usage and compliance. Working part-time means they may focus on specific projects, assist with audits, or support ongoing data quality initiatives without the commitment of a full-time schedule. They typically collaborate with IT, compliance, and business teams to maintain data integrity and regulatory compliance. This role is ideal for those who have experience in data management and seek flexible working hours.

What are the typical responsibilities of a part time data governance professional, and how do they collaborate with other teams?

Part-time data governance professionals are responsible for ensuring data quality, consistency, and compliance with regulations by developing and enforcing data policies and standards. They frequently collaborate with IT, business analysts, and data stewards to address data-related issues, assist with data cataloging, and support data lifecycle management. Communication and coordination are key, as the role often involves facilitating meetings, documenting processes, and advising on best practices across departments. While part-time positions may focus on specific projects or compliance initiatives, they play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and value of organizational data.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time data governance professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Data Governance professional, you need a solid understanding of data management principles, regulatory compliance, and data quality, often supported by a degree in information systems or a related field. Familiarity with data governance frameworks, data catalog tools (such as Collibra or Alation), and proficiency in data privacy regulations like GDPR is typically required. Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and stakeholder management are essential soft skills for success in this role. These skills ensure that data assets are properly managed, compliant, and leveraged effectively to support organizational goals even in a part-time capacity.
