Job description

LRI, a Waste Connections Company, is seeking a highly dependable, customer-focused Part-Time Relief Cashier to support operations across Pierce County.
This permanent, year-round position provides staffing coverage at transfer stations throughout Bonney Lake, Puyallup, Graham, and Gig Harbor. The successful candidate must be comfortable working at multiple locations and adapting to changing schedules based on operational needs.
Before You Apply: Please Read Carefully
This is a permanent relief position, not a traditional part-time job.
We want applicants to fully understand the scheduling expectations before applying.
This Position Does NOT Offer:
  • A fixed weekly schedule
  • Set days off each week
  • Guaranteed weekly hours
  • A permanent work location
  • The ability to work only certain days of the week
  • Accommodations for limited availability
  • A schedule built around another job, school schedule, childcare schedule, or other personal commitments
  • The option to work exclusively at one transfer station

This Position DOES Require:
  • Availability to work any day of the week, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Availability to work at multiple locations throughout Pierce County
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to commute where needed
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and work locations
  • Dependable attendance and reliability
  • Willingness to accept assignments based on operational needs

This role is designed to provide relief coverage for vacations, leaves of absence, training, sick calls, and staffing shortages throughout our district. As a result, schedules, hours, and work locations can change frequently based on business needs.
While schedules are generally communicated in advance, they are subject to change based on operational needs.
Successful employees in this position are flexible, dependable, and available to work when coverage is needed.
If you are looking for guaranteed hours, a predictable schedule, specific days off, restricted availability, or one assigned work location, this position is likely not the right fit.
Compensation & Schedule
Pay: $25.11 per hour
Position Type: Part-Time Relief
Union Representation: Teamsters Local 313
Average Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week
Shift Start Times: Typically begin at 8:00 AM or 9:00 AM depending on location
This is a relief position with no fixed schedule.
Coverage needs are often highest on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Monday helper shifts; however, employees may be scheduled any day of the week based on operational needs.
Hours, locations, and schedules vary depending on staffing and operational demands.
Work Locations
Employees may be assigned to work at any LRI transfer station within the Pierce County district, including:
  • Bonney Lake
  • Puyallup
  • Graham
  • Gig Harbor

Assignments are based on operational need, and employees must be willing and able to report to any assigned location.
Why This Role Matters
As a Part-Time Cashier, you are often the first person customers interact with when visiting our facilities. Your professionalism, accuracy, and customer service skills directly shape the customer experience while helping ensure safe, efficient operations.
This role requires someone who can confidently balance customer interactions, cash handling, transaction processing, data entry, and operational awareness in a busy transfer station environment.
What You'll Do
Deliver Excellent Customer Service

Maintain Data Accuracy

  • Verify information for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain organized and audit-ready records.

Apply Waste Acceptance Policies
  • Verify incoming materials meet site acceptance requirements.
  • Identify restricted or prohibited materials.
  • Escalate concerns according to established procedures.
  • Consistently follow company policies and operating standards.

Support Safe and Efficient Site Operations
  • Help maintain organized vehicle flow through the facility.
  • Coordinate with operations staff to support safe site traffic.
