Location Simpson Querrey Biomedical Research Center Job Description This position will be responsible for the development of data analytics systems under the ownership of the Data Discovery and Development team under the Stanley Manne Children's Research Institute. The Data Engineer I assists in the implementation and maintenance of data systems, working with Product, Business Analysts, and peers to support availability and efficiency across operational and analytical workflows. The role follows established procedures to complete work independently, seeking guidance on non-routine decisions. The Data Engineer I supports data ingestion, storage, and integration and contributes to complex data solutions through familiarity with core data management solutions and architectures, including warehouse, lake, and medallion patterns, as well as foundational data processes such as governance, metadata, and data quality. Essential Job Functions Assists in the ingestion, integration, storage, and processing of data from internal and external sources to support operational and analytical workflows, including basic reporting and data access needs Performs basic data transformation and supports development of simple data models using established patterns and standards Ensures data quality and integrity through validation activities, following established standards and identifying and escalating issues Monitors data pipelines and assists with troubleshooting operational issues to support system reliability and continuity Updates metadata, catalogs, and documentation in accordance with established standards, identifying gaps and maintaining data assets Collaborates with peers and stakeholders to support data delivery and analytics enablement, following team processes, Agile practices, and security and access policies Assists with solution development and deployment activities, including SDLC tasks and infrastructure support, while building familiarity with business context and emerging technologies Other job functions as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 2+ years of relevant hands‐on experience in data management or data engineering disciplines required, including areas such as data integration, data modeling, data quality, data optimization, or related domains within an IT environment. Bachelor's degree in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, data management, information systems, information science, or a related field preferred. Working knowledge of modern data platforms and storage solutions and the ability to apply established patterns to support well‐defined data solutions (e.g., cloud data platforms, data warehouses, lakehouses). Ability to apply data ingestion, integration, and orchestration patterns using established ETL/ELT frameworks and tooling within defined standards. Working knowledge of SQL for querying, transforming, and validating data, with exposure to scripting languages such as Python. Basic understanding of data modeling and transformation concepts used to support analytical and operational use cases. Applies data quality, governance, and security practices in accordance with established standards and policies, including appropriate handling of sensitive data. Demonstrates problem‐solving skills to troubleshoot well‐defined issues with guidance and escalates appropriately. Collaborates effectively with peers and stakeholders, communicates clearly, and follows established team and Agile practices. Exposure to healthcare data concepts and environments preferred.
